Kinja'd!!!

And all it took to fix was my dad spraying it with WD40 and banging on it with what ever that weird ringed thing in the trunk. Oh Germans, you both amaze and confuse me.

On a side note, if anyone has a working SAM computer for under $250 with these serial numbers, reply below:

And this is why I am more than happy to close my own tailgate and slide my own side doors shut. Simpler=better.

I once watched a couple use their power close tailgate and then stand there and watch it close. Which made me wonder what’s the point would have been faster to just give it a little momentum and let gravity do the rest.

Taillights leaking water onto the rear SAM and tailgate pump?

Have a question! So the other day I loaned my W204 C300 4matic to my dad, and after leaving it parked in the rain all night he noticed there was water on the REAR passenger floor. Also, the TCM seems to lose connection to the transmission intermittently. Any ideas?? I got the car back today and I’m going to search for a clogged drain tomorrow, but any ideas on the transmission?

Replace WD40 with PB B’laster and duct tape with JB Weld, and then the chart would be perfect.

Probably clogged drains for the sunroof, don’t usually see water leaks on 204's.

Not sure what you mean with the trans. The trans control unit is inside of the trans itself. What exactly does it do?

I have the panoramic roof so I’m just gonna trace the leak.

So basically, once I was driving and had stopped and shifted the car into park. Shifted back to drive but on the gauge cluster it didn’t show the gear, was just blank in the area where the gear usually shows, and the car didn’t move. Turned the car off and turned it on again and it worked fine. When my dad was driving it, he said it happened twice in the same day. His good friend is a BMW/Benz mechanic and mentioned the transmission control module losing connection or something like that? Haven’t gotten to investigate it too much as I’m in the process of overhauling the suspension on my 328i and tidying up a few things on my 335i. The w204 has been great so far but I sadly have a feeling that this issue may be an expensive fix.

Shifter itself maybe? Can’t recall seeing that problem before. I’d want to run codes on it and see if anything comes up. Don’t know what that guy means by losing connection. The trans and it’s control unit are entirely self contained. It’s only got 4 wires; power, ground, and two CAN lines. If any of those are interrupted you’ll have more than just a lack of gear indication for a symptom. I have replaced a couple shifters, and interestingly, they can cause a few weird problems. If no codes came up and I couldn’t get the problem to happen again, I would do a software update, SCN coding, and teach-in of the gear selection range sensor. Not a guaranteed fix, but it’s the best and easiest starting point.

Yeah I used my OBD to try to pull any codes after he told me it had happened, but I got nothing. What do you think could’ve happened to the shifter to possibly cause this? That seems like a likely cause of this. I was thinking about heading to the dealership to have them check if it needs a software update. Very strange issue, and I can’t seem to find any knowledge about it on forums.

A generic scan tool won’t get you anywhere with this, they usually only pull P codes and other basic stuff like that. Factory’s scan tool will pick up proprietary and communication related faults. Often shifter failures are because someone spilled their ‘murican sized big gulp and caused a short circuit or a sticking switch. If you go to a dealer, make sure you tell them the whole story, bring multiple keys (seriously, sometimes things like this are just because of the key, though I don’t think that’s your problem), and if they can’t find any faults have them update it and teach in the range sensor.

Was about to take the C to Costco to get son gas, and it did it again. Shift into reverse, nothing. Drive, nothing. Put it back in park and came inside. Just had it at the dealer today for a complimentary multi point inspection that they emailed me about, and they didn’t mention anything even after I brought up the leak and the transmission problem. Really stumped with the transmission issue. When it works, it works flawlessly and shifts completely smooth. Really wish the Benz forums were a little more helpful on technical issues like this.

Was there a specific repair line written on the RO? If not, an inspection alone won’t get you anywhere because it doesn’t include scanning anything. Same goes for the leak actually. If there is no line written on the RO, the tech will have no idea you wanted anything other than an inspection. I’ve found that even when forums do seem to have information on a Benz problem, it’s usually wrong somehow, lots of speculation with no actual knowledge or experience.

Didn’t get an RO. I asked the service advisor to mention both and he said he’d tell the technician looking at it. Gonna try to get my Indy to scan it (believe he has a STAR) to see if that’ll resolve the problem. I have a feeling the water (only on the rear passenger floor) and the transmission are connected.

It’s definitely possible they’re related. There are CAN blocks in the floor beneath the front kick panels, and if these get water on them can cause all sorts of problems. They are covered and protected within a plastic channel which is more than enough to protect against normal water entry, but if there is an active leak and it starts accumulating on the floor under the carpet, then the CAN blocks are likely to be damaged.
