I think now is the time to sell the S600. With all the money I’ve put into it in the last month, it think I could reasonably get at least $18,000 for it on BaT, and get into a newer S600 or like a 2015 LS460. I’m just tired of the ridiculous repairs, and even my Dealer service adviser told me to get rid of this thing. I love the car, but an average of $7200 a year in maintenance is just ridiculous. I’ll miss it, but I’ve spent more money in 2.5 years fixing the car than I paid for it originally.

I’m truly sorry but I’m morbidly amused by how back and forth you are with this car.

Idk, it’s sort of funny lol. I like the car, but I think the honeymoon factor has pretty much worn off. There’s pressure from the family as well, and I need the money that I’d otherwise spend on ABC to fix other shit. I could completely fix my LS400 for the price of this pump service alone, and I want another truck. My house needs a new roof within the next few years also lol. Bear in mind, I’m still planning on buying an S65 coupe in a few years, I just think this specific S600 is a lost cause.

NineFourTeener sold an S2000 on BaT recently, but I don’t think he’s on here much.

There’s 1 or 2 others that I’m forgetting right now.

It definitely makes sense. From both sides of it.

A friend of mine sold a fairly rare older Audi on there not long ago. He was overly detailed and very honest about the car’s flaws. He also was responsive to questions during the auction. That being said, his car sold for well above what he expected.

I sold my 993 on bring a trailer last December. It was a fairly easy process. I was hoping to get a little more money than it sold for, but I was happy with the final sale price.

I was a little disappointed in BAT’s initial car description text. They have a process where they take your information about the car, and anything that you write about it. They edit it (it is this edit that I had a problem with), and then present it back to you. You then make your own edits, and what you come up with is what you see on BAT. Their edit seemed weak, and repetitive in my case. The final text of the auction was exactly what I wrote.

I would recommend that you set a reasonable reserve, and realize that if you do not set a reserve, on a car like the S600, while very impressive, it is expensive to own, and the bidding will reflect that. People on BAT know cars, and what they are getting into. It is a great community to get your car in front of eyes that understand what you are selling.

The auction just introduces you to the buyer. You both have some skin the game, but it is up to you and the buyer to work out money, and vehicle transfer. It would be nice if BAT had an escrow service to protect everyone in the sale process.

When you list the vehicle, be honest, and clinical about the car. For most of us, cars are an emotional thing, and when you are putting your car/self out there, you need to realize this is a business transaction. Leave your emotions out. Watch the auction and comments. Respond to questions. Be prepared to make your vehicle available for a PPI, and for in person inspections. BAT auctions only last 1 week. That is not a lot of time to set these types of inspections up.

What year is the S600?

And here’s the detail that hurts.. $7200 / year in maintenance?

2004, and yeah, that’s averaged out. Some years were worse than others

$18,000? How many miles?

$18,000 with failed ABC, inop PSE, and due for a 100,000 mile tune-up?

You’ve got Designo to bolster your value, but the market for 220s shrinks every year.

Nope, I fixed all of that lol. I’m confident I can get 18-20 on BaT. In the last 5-6,000 miles it’s had new wheels, new control arms a new pump, 100,000 mile tuneup, new tires, and a new line. I’m all but decided on a 2013 S550 at this point I think.

So if you sell it for 18k you will net...what? $0.62 against those repairs alone?

I’m losing money on the repairs regardless, but the car is paid for, so I’ll use that $18,000 to put a sizable down payment on an S550

I know the pain of cutting losses. I feel you are making the correct decision. But maybe get the LS460 and not an S550, then you know you’ll have money set aside for that S-class coupe later.

From what I’ve read, the 2012+ S550 is nearly as reliable as the 13-14 LS460, and apparently MUCH better to drive, and a lot faster. I can handle replacing an Airmatic strut every now and then, but the repeated $3000 ABC bill get old quick.
