Kinja'd!!!

Writing a research paper on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and its impact on the auto industry. What are some good resources to find more info on the subject? Any notable cases to look over?

As far as I know the main case is this order from the Library of Congress.

If you google “dmca auto industry” you’ll find plenty of articles talking about it.

If your school’s library has Lexisnexis access, start there. And also savor that free access if they have it.

My hourly rate is probably more than you’d care to spend on this project, but I can probably find a paralegal to do the research for half the price. If that works for you, I’ll send over an engagement agreement shortly.

Just kidding. Here’s a decent summary linking to other sources that Google found for me: https://www.publicknowledge.org/news-blog/blogs/revving-our-engines-on-dmca-reform-in-2016

Also, I’d be interested in reading what you come up with, especially if you have any ideas for litigation that might move the law in a favorable direction.

What level of class is this for? Undergrad, Grad, Law School? etc?

They give us the WestLaw database which has a good amount of info readily accessible. I’m finding the reading pretty interesting so far.

The linked article is great, thank you! I’ll be researching these issues pretty deeply today.

I’m considering putting my findings together for a future article that I’ll submit to the Jalopnik FP. If they’re not interested in publishing it, then of course it’ll get an Oppo share. I’ve got lots of ideas.

Definitely going to look through that document for primary source info. Thank you! I’ve been finding more information on the subject and it’s pretty fascinating.

I saw something about GM doing the same. In 2015 Congress made an exception for end-users of farm equipment, but not third parties. Kind of backwards to exclude the mechanics that’ll be working on such vehicles.

Not if the goal is to extort ‘licensing fees’ from said mechanics.
