I owned a 1978 Datsun 280z. These are the only photos I have left of it:

The wheels were painted by a PO, I once spent a full day stripping the paint and polishing them. PO also had the car repainted with the front air dam (not a fan) and nixed the rear bumper.

I bought this car in high school for about $3,000 and took lots of joy in explaining to my friends what it was. After a new fuel pump, plugs, wires, and a basic tune up, it ran quite well. I told myself I was going to keep it as long as I could. I refused to be “that guy” that would plague people later in life with the “Ya know, back when I was in high school, I drove a ...”

I had to sell it when I went to college. Now I’m totally that guy that had a Datsun back in high school.

Sigh. I miss it so much.

Is it better to have been cool once, or never cool so that you don’t realize how much you miss your 280z?

My 240z came with slots but one was damaged and wouldn’t be safe. That car is riding really high, I guess you could do a rally then, which they are also good for!

I seriously miss it so much. I think it comes up in conversation at least once every 2-3 weeks. And it’s been gone for a decade.

I drove this in high school. It was so rusty that when you hit a bump the alignment changed. I traded it for a not quit as rusty 1978 Datsun 510 wagon.
