Ugghhh those RS4s look so nice, the white leather looks great too... Idk if I’d be willing to pay that much for one though.

I drove an RS4 and I know this is an unpopular opinion but I was not impressed. I enjoyed the C63, despite the auto, and the E90 a decent amount more. The RS4 just felt slow in comparison for some reason. Maybe it was the added weight or the high revving nature of the engine, but the E90 didn’t feel as gutless with its small V8.

The S2000 looks fantastic. The few modifications they did were in decent taste. But is it really worth that much money? That’s C5Z with comparable miles money. Crazy how much that market varies, but I guess it makes sense when 99% of other available S2000's have been thoroughly thrashed

I really want to buy his S2000, but my kids are 10, 8 & 4. One day...

He just picked up a bone-stock R32 GT-R, I know he’d also been talking of looking at a newer one. I think his R8 4.2 may be going up for sale soon as well, but beyond that I actually dunno.

Same. RS4 prices are crazy. And apparently you can’t even get a hitch for them!

Oh wow... does he let you drive them? If not (yet), you should at least get a drive in the two he’s selling before they’re gone!

That’s a lot of scratch for the RS4, considering an off-lease 2014 S4 can be had for less/the same and is a quicker car.

You definitely should. I failed to drive my boss’ 997 911 manual before he sold it, but he did let me drive his 987 Boxster PDK (which he was thinking about selling but ended up keeping).

Yes - a Cayman GT4 is absolutely my dream car (short of the 991.2 GT3 manual).

I think I could be very, very happy with a 981 Cayman S (and probably a late 987). Sapphire Blue, please.

The waiting, as they say, is the hardest part.

Hate to be THAT guy, but he is unrealistic on the S2000. Considering the fenders, liners and rear bumper. If it was 100% stock, and in perfect shape $27k would be a place to start.

Its bullet-fucking-proof. And cheaper...

They’re really rare, especially in that kind of condition. But they can be had in the mid-20's.

I bet the RS4 you drove was severely down on power due to carbon buildup. They need a carbon cleaning like once a year.

Oh yeah, I know. I’ve done my fair share of searching for V8 S4 and RS4s.

11/01/2017 at 14:11, STARS: 0

Test drove an RS4 and a B8 S4 back to back. S4 is not quicker unless you tune it (clarification, S4 has more mid-range for daily driving, but the RS4 has plenty of grunt. RS4 will kill the S4 on the top end.) Both are front heavy and will understeer. But I’d take the RS4 every time. It wins on aesthetics, build quality and dat V8 noise.

Kinja'd!!! "Party-vi" (party-vi)
11/01/2017 at 15:09, STARS: 0

How about those timing chain tensioners?

Also, a 2014 B8 S4 will clip the RS4 by 0.2s in the 1/4 mile. I realize that’s not a win in the real world, but on paper it’s quicker.

ETA: The RS4 is lustworthy, but I can’t see paying that much for the low-mileage premium on something that needs to be driven to enjoy it.

Kinja'd!!! "Saracen" (manualdoucheelitist)
11/01/2017 at 15:19, STARS: 0

The RS4 does not have the same engine as the B6/B7 S4, and has much stouter timing chain components. Tensioners can go in any car, and while the RS4's will need an eventual replacement, they are much better and last far longer than what the S4 got. The real issue though is that the S4 had plastic timing chain guides....the RS4's are metal.

I know the S4 edges the RS4 down the quarter mile. But the RS4 will look and sound WAY better ;)

Ah see this I did not know. Still, almost $40K for a decade old car is a lot. Would you take the RS4, or an E39 M5?

Kinja'd!!! "Saracen" (manualdoucheelitist)
11/01/2017 at 15:31, STARS: 0

It’s a rare beast, and still very sought after in the Audi enthusiast community, especially low mileage examples.

I’ve never driven an E39 M5, but I’d lead toward a more modern car, so one of the V8 trinity (E90 M3/RS4/C63)

May still be an RS4 in my future.

Back in the ‘80s I had a couple of bosses that let me borrow their cars for various work-related tasks. I was just a poor college student driving various VWs (GTI, Vanagon, Rabbit Pickup), so getting to cruise around in their much nicer cars was quite a treat. The ones I remember most were the 300ZX, RX-7 convertible, E30 convertible, and the cream of the crop, a V12 XJS convertible. Not enough ‘o’s in smoooooth to describe that ride...

I love it! I picked it up in early march and immediately road tripped it home 500 miles.

It’s in stunning condition. Fully loaded car too (C4S). MSRP was more than a base Turbo. It literally has every option available but the Aerokit. Also came with choice TechArt upgrades. The downside of that is that it’s punishingly stiff in Sport mode until I can get access to the TechArt coilovers and turn down the damping a bit.

Good to hear, man! Sounds like a stellar example. I picked up my C5Z late March and it has also been fantastic although not as much of a spring chicken as a 997 :)

No, the Omaha auto show is pretty lame so if they want anything nicer than an S-Class they have to ask private owners to park them there.

Okay, that makes sense. Tulsa’s show is also pretty lame, but our local Caffeine and Gasoline group has a large section of the parking lot outside to make it much, much more interesting.
