Kinja'd!!!

Mustang has been at “le dealership” for over a week now. While they’ve found that the coolant is leaking into cylinder #2 causing the misfires, they haven’t taken the engine apart to find out what is causing the leak (HEAD GASKET!!! :p) and whether or not warranty will cover it.

Kinja'd!!!

In the meantime, I towed the 931 home to work on over the winter and replace it’s headgasket.

I comically started looking for replacement cars for the Mustang, should this end unfavorably. Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best I believe. My faith in turbocharged engines has been a little bit shaken, stock or not.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

Even with the doggy 315hp 4.6L, I’d be alright with this. It’s the same color at least? Things could be far worse right now.

“I also comically started looking for replacement cars for the Mustang should this end unfavorably. Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best I believe.”

This is a dangerous game haha. I had only had my STi for 6 months (and I loved it) when I hit a deer. It was at the shop for a while so I “comically” started looking at E46 M3's. When I got the STi back the body/paint work was so bad I had to fight with the to have them fix it properly. I never saw it again. By the time they had it fixed the second time I had a deposit on my M3 and I had the dealership pick up the STi from the body shop after they dropped the M3 to me.

Sorry to hear about your car troubles.

I live life dangerously. There’s a slew of 2010-14 manual Mustang GT’s around me from $15-20k. I have at least four more besides that one as backup plans. If mine isn’t back after a month, I know what I have to do.

Some say I may’ve had it coming with a modded car. It’s possible and maybe true. Having an issue like this at 19,000 miles is still uncalled for and surprising, stock or not.

Step 1) Get an SVT focus for daily/winter beating

Step 2) Ditch boostang

Step 3) Make your 931 great again!

Step 4) Buy a used boxster or 911

Step 5) Cry at having to pay for insurance for 3 cars ;_;

A week, and that’s all the progress they’ve made? Are they still insisting on the grille shutters?

No, they’re ignoring the lack of grille shutters now and looking elsewhere even though I know what the problem is.

Well, to be fair, knowing that the head gasket is blown isn’t enough. They need to know why it blew. Not just to make sure that you’re still eligible for warranty, but to prevent it from happening again.

I’d hold out for a coyote last gen. I really like those cars actually and even though the current gen is better in every way I think any coyote car is a gem

Just saying, it’d be sad to goto 4.6 new/old body. Especially when it makes less power than your 4 popper.

It makes the same as mine did stock. And it may very well last longer and be more reliable. Losing the nicer interior and IRS would suck major excrement I’ll admit.

I’d enjoy any coyote, but not the early MT-82 problems which is hypocritical of me since I have had good luck with the current iteration of that trans. I figured a proven 4.6 with a proven 5 speed manual would be a win-win.

I know the feels of missing your car. I’ve been tooling around in an ‘18 X1 for the last 3 weeks while they replace the engine in my ZHP. It’s not terrible, certainly less terrible that I was expecting it to be, but its not even close to my ZHP.

I bet it’s easier to diagnose with the engine still together. Maybe that’s why they haven’t torn into it. They’re busy with the cooling controls and engine management stuff.

I just don’t understand what the hold up is. A week is a long time to be wrenching with no results. They must have hit some kind of dead end and had to roll it out of the shop for a while so that their mechanics could work on something else.

I honestly don’t know if it’s a widespread issue. But I’ve never heard anyone complain about a Tremec trans, and the 2010 GT has a TR-3650.

Get one with the 5.0 if you get one at all. I know the 4.6 has similar power to a stock EB, but the EB has good power for a 4 cylinder, whereas the 4.6 is just sad.

Kinja'd!!! "K-Roll-PorscheTamer" (k-roll390)
11/01/2017 at 14:27, STARS: 0

It wasn’t stock. But it was arguably one of the safest tunes on the market. Livernois has been tuning Ecoboost engines since 2009. My service adviser and I doubt the tune had anything to do with the failure but thats what we think and probably not Ford, I assume. If it’s not covered, on to the next car as I suppose. I certainly hope it doesn’t come to that but I have to move forwards.

I’m in Metro Detroit, but it’s one of very few Grabber Blue GTs in a 100 mile radius of me. I refuse to own a black car or any color that shows scratches and swirls like mad.

Dammit. There goes the only Grabber Blue replacement. Some dreams have to die that way I guess. Guess I gotta suck it up and get a swirltastic color as backup.

Thanks for the heads up. The other reason I considered an Ohio dealer is because my dad is from Ohio.

Tan interior? I wonder how much extra the glass roof weighs over the standard coupe? If excrement hits the rotary, I imagine yours wouldn’t be too complicated of an option.

Kinja'd!!! "Idiot In The Garage Needs A New CGI Job..." (idiotinthegarage)
11/03/2017 at 16:36, STARS: 0

I think the interior color is “ceramic”, so yeah, white/tan color.

Some googling suggests the glass roof weighs 25-30 more than the standard coupe.

Regardless, I think we’re all hoping the Boostang gets back to you good as new.
