It’s one of those books I like to have around, to read sections from time to time. I can’t sit and read it cover to cover. I find that to be the case with a lot of books that I’m generally interested in for the content, but I struggle to read in one pass. It’s taken me a long time to be okay with this; I can’t stand “not finishing” a book. But I’ve convinced myself that some books are just better suited for sporadic reading.

Interesting you mention this. As a lover of history, I have read most of Daniel Boorstin’s The Creators and The Discoverers . They are both fascinating, but they become quite a slog after a while. Just the other day, I thought I should revisit them, but read a chapter at a time, spaced out over time. I think it would be more palatable that way, and I would likely retain more of it.

Well, I had read that headline as they would be receiving, but I see now that it could be read either way. Another strike against the headline writer.

And now I’m reminded of the opening scene in American Beauty .
That said, I just watched the first 4 minutes of that movie on YouTube. Damn, that was a good film. And a great score.
