What happened today is not going over well for them. I like home depot. I prefer it over lowes. I just took a look at #homedepot on twitter and its ugly. I can’t tell whos being atroll and moking calls to ban guns or if they are actually serious but it all sounds crazy. Are the requirements for something like Hertz and different from Home Depot?

Today was tragic, that’s for sure. My condolences for those who who were killed, injured, and affected.

People are gonna kill people with whatever they can get. What we should focus on is having it so that people don’t want to kill people in the first place.

We rented one of those a couple of weeks ago to dispose of a VERY large couch that wasn’t going to fit in my short bed with a cab height shell. It was first come, first serve, and showing a valid driver’s license and current insurance card for a vehicle matched to the same name.

It’s truly sad. The state of the world is sad.

Just imagine the outrage if he’d used guns instead.

Oh

It’ll never happen, but if we can get people to reach the conclusion of “gee, killing people is a good idea” on more occasions, we’ll be better off.

Home Depot’s truck rental page: Linky

Basically, you’ve gotta be 21, have a license and a credit card and maybe insurance.

The thing about these truck-based terrorist attacks is that they are equally terrifying and difficult to prevent. Most people previously didn’t even consider the possibility that some random truck that they see on the road could be driven by a terrorist that wants to mow them down. Now it’s becoming more and more prevalent.

That’s why you see garbage trucks parked at the end of parades to prevent this. We can take steps to prevent attack styles we know about and can anticipate, but the terrorists will be constantly coming up with new ideas.

Absolutely zero blame should be placed on Home Depot, unless they somehow failed to ask for a driver’s license (and proof of insurance, as ITA97 pointed out).

It’s pretty lax, as others have mentioned. (Also, my back still isn’t right after spending an hour in one of those fuckers, over a month later - it’s far better than it was, but it’s not right.)

Ultimately, what’ll need to happen is fortifying infrastructure intended for vulnerable road users - planters, bollards, and the like.

However, that should happen anyway , even if terrorists aren’t a concern. How many times do we hear about pedal misapplication causing someone’s Toyota Avalon to run into a farmer’s market? How many times do we hear about people driving on bicycle infrastructure and sidewalks because it gets them a bit closer to their destination?

Yes but that’s your world...and even then I still don’t think it’s as sad as you think it is. Either way...rather glad I don’t live in it!!

According to the news the world is a warzone and the people on the “other side” of the political fence are savages. If you go outside and talk to people you’ll find that’s pretty far from the truth. The person who you are replying to decided to drink the kool aid.
