The wife and I are going to look at this tomorrow. We’ve got kiddo #3 on the way and need to get her something bigger than her Fusion. So we’ve been looking around at Honda Odysseys locally. This seems to be our best bet for mileage/year/what we can afford. It’s priced pretty close to what KBB says is the value of the car for buying it from a dealership. But I don’t know if that means that it’s just on par with others being sold like it, or if that’s what I should actually value the car at and be ok with paying. Does this look like a good deal? Or do I need to go in prepared to walk if they won’t budge on the price? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Find out if the timing belt has been done on it!

The CarFax doesn’t list it as being done, but then again, I don’t know if they would spell out that it was done, or if it’d just show up as “Service performed” or something generic like that. I’ll definitely ask though. Does the Odyssey have issues with the timing belt?

Not an issue, but it’s a maintenance item at 105,000 miles. I believe its an interference engine, so it’s not something to skip. Likely a ~$1,000 dealer job, so it would be a bonus if it was already done if it wasn’t.

We still have it, three years old. It works. It transports people. Maintenance is easy.

Always be prepared to walk.

It needs to be done every 105k. Based off the carfax, I’m having my doubts that it was done..

Compare with CarMax and KBB prices. Check that all the power-operated doors and stuff work well without struggling—lots of gadgets and things to break in these.

As others have said, check the maintenance, and if they can’t prove it with paperwork, then assume it hasn’t been done. Press every button and all that. Use any shortcomings to work the price down, and if they don’t budge, then bounce. There are plenty of these out there.
