The Pixel 2 XL screen’s off-angle blue shift is annoying. If you’re sitting at a table and you put the phone down, it’s at just angle where the screen turns blue. And the normal-blue-normal-blue shifting back and forth would drive me up a wall.

The more I hear about the pixel 2 xl, the more I feel like I made the right choice by buying a Pixel 1 XL a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I have a Pixel and thought about the Pixel II, but it sounds like they contracted it out to FCA with all the issues.

It doesn’t bother me at all. Why? Because looking at the phone at any other angle is not how you typically view your phone. But even setting it down and viewing it on a desk is not the end of the world.

Do I still wish Google could have pulled their heads out of their asses and fixed it? Yes. I can’t believe that either no one noticed, or they didn’t bother to care.

I’ve had the first Pixel XL for a year and love it. The Pixel 2 XL is going back.

The Pixel 2 XL’s camera is as good as advertised though. Pity.

Same here! Although I got the regular Pixel 1 at a steal.

2017 is the year of the flagship phone fail.

Samsung Galaxy 8 series - Bixby button, fingerprint sensor placement

Sony XZ1 series - no fingerprint sensors in the USA

LG V30 - crap screen

Essential PH-1 - crap camera (with potential software fixes), no high quality bluetooth audio codec support in spite of no headphone jack

Moto Z2 Force - small battery, scratch-prone ShatterShield screen, no headphone jack

Pixel XL 2 - crap screen, no headphone jack

iPhone X - notch, no fingerprint sensor (screw Face ID)

The HTC U11, iPhone 8 series, & Pixel 2 only get dinged for the lack of headphone jack.

The only phone that gets a total pass is the OnePlus 5 but it’s out of stock at the moment until the 5T comes along.

Camera was actually the deciding factor for me on the Pixel 1 xl. I cannot own another phone with OIS, mounting them on motorcycle handlebars (for GPS) and in the racecar always lunch the gyros in short order got real good at replacing cameras on my S6 and Nexus 6 :/

Did some digging every phone with optical image stabilization will die in high vibration environments, so I’ve got to stick to phones with digital stabilization. For Full sized recent phones that’s just the Pixel 1 XL

From what I can see this is a pretty standard issue with OLED screens. My S7 edge does this (especially around the curved edges, even when viewing straight on) and apparently the iPhone X’s new OLED display does it too. However I believe the QC problems with the Pixel screens are whats making this issue much worse than what is normal.

Yeah, it’s an individual preference I guess. I think it’s the abruptness of the shift that bugs me the most.

well, if  all the Pixel 2 XL screens have the issue, that’s pretty consistent QC ...

From what I’ve seen some have it worse than others. But, regardless I think its ALL OLED screens that do this. What phone did you come from, if I might ask?

If it varies by phone I guess mine isn’t really affected because it barely changes and it’s a gradual shift. Sort of like screens that go black when viewed from the wrong angle through polarized lenses.

I was really tempted to pick up a 2 XL because I no longer have a backup phone because I moved to Project Fi but the screen issues have really turned me off. It’s a really nice design but the screen issues let it down. I would still buy a Pixel 2 XL if they changed it to a Samsung panel like what is used in the smaller Pixel 2. LG just hasn’t figured out OLED yet.

Actually it might be a Google issue ... saw this side by side of the Pixel 2 XL and LG V30 and I guess the V30 doesn’t have (as much of?) the effect.
