The counterweight is also around 600lbs. The images inside this post might offend some, open at your own risk.

Kinja'd!!!

My brother shot a deer, wild game in the freezer is always good.

Kinja'd!!!

He got an anter tag this year. It has one anter with 2 points. It’s also an doe with antler’s, not very common. I can’t wait for venison steak.

Shooting them is so much simpler than running them down with your car.

Any extra holes in it? In the last 10 years or so we have been out hunting, _all_ the deer we’ve taken have arrow or .223 wounds already in them. Id10ts with an ar15 think that a 6" group at 50 yards is good enough for deer hunting. It’s not. (Should I leave this much said or continue...) Pfft:

1) Venison sausage is the “pink slime” of a deer carcass.

2) Think cow and choose the good parts. Same basic structure, just less of it and tastier.

3)Did it run afore it died? Meat will be tougher with adrenaline poisoning.

4) All ya’ll clipped the hooves and gutted this carcass but didn’t complete the job by skinning it? That hide keeps in the heat.

5) And, head on means blood can’t drain very well. Cut it off! Carotid and Jugular words ring any bells?

Ahhk, kids these days. Now, get off my lawn and take yer woosy .223 with ya. We’re using .308, .270, and my big 10" (scoped .500 mag S&W)...

My brother shot it with a crossbow, then my dad went out to help field dress it. Be tracked a blood trail for an hour. How it’s processed after its been shot varys by hunter. My dad has been hunting deer for 30 years, & this how he processes it.

Yea, it’s “that trackin’ it“ that hurts.. Lots of adrenaline in the meat. Consider what that poor wretch went through in that hour after the bolt pierced his body. Would you want that on your worst enemy? Good on yer Da for following through and finding the kill. So often folks just let the poor beast go. I see the added “head shot”; late but good on ya. Here in S GA they use dogs and shotguns for deer. I don’t participate in this kind of cruelty.

It must have had lots of adrenaline, my brother got good lung shot. It did not run far, it was shot dusk (no hunting 10 minutes after dusk) so it tracking it in tight bush in the dark.

Oh deer!

Must be a heavy sonofabitch if you need a 600lb counterweight on the tractor :)

Oh aye. S’ok, I support thee and thine. Your appear to be consciousness hunters now (the head shot did it :). Yea, meats a little tougher and stronger tasting. But still good and usable. Ummm! Venison in any form but absent is delicious. :)

FWIW, Dad made me chase a wounded deer until it fell for 6 hours. He saw the hit and knew it was just wounded. Made me walk it down and field dress and haul it out. He was there, patient and teaching but I did the work. I was 11. What a lesson! What a bunch of lessons!

Can’t be as bad tracking a moose for 6 hours in bug heavy bush.

Tracking a deer through a Smokey Mtn laurel hell is probably equivalent. Would love to hunt a moose some day, with my 10". It’s the hunt that matters. Skeeters are smaller down here but no less numerous. :)

If you’re going to use an AR for hunting, I prefer it to be a AR10. That being said, I occasionally see them by me in northern Wisconsin, but the bullets are typically too light for the heavy brush we have. 30-06, .308, 30-30, etc. are a lot more common.

I have to disagree on the venison sausage though. Once you pick out the choice cuts and a few roasts, I love getting the rest made into sausage.

I haven’t gone out yet this year, but my FIL got a doe a few weeks back, so even if we’re skunked for gun season, we’ll have some venison in the freezer.

They allow dogs for deer hunting? wow. They’re banned by us, and I know more than a few hunters who’ve said they’d shoot the dog before the deer if they encountered a chase.

Mmmm, tasty. Bow hunting is definitely an odd one. Especially having to track it down.

I disagree. I try to shoot them all the time, only got one last year and none the prior several years, but hit 4 with my car, 3 in 2017 alone. I’m not complaining too much though, a headlight cost the same as a hunting license, and I didn’t have to drag it out of the woods.

Ha!! You have a point. In my world, a headlight costs a lot more than a rifle. Not to mention the rest of the front end to which it is attached
