The Navigator got redesigned for ‘18 along with the Expedition. I think its gorgeous. Handsome and uniquely American Luxury. I mean look at this interior:
If Lincoln keeps going the way they have been with this and the Continental, Cadillac might not be the only American luxury brand anyone takes seriously much longer. But with this new generation comes a hell of a price increase.
We’ll just use long wheelbase versions for the sake of building because standard wheelbase versions of this and the Expedition aren’t as cavernous cargo wise as many would think, leading you to think why they are still around in the first place. A last gen, 2017 Navigator L started at $68,675 with awd. The ‘18? $84,600. A price increase of $15,925. That’s crazy (and exactly how much a 2018 Navigator L will be worth in 2021 with 70 thousand miles).
I do appreciate what Lincoln is doing with their Black Label trims. They give you the ability to sort of personalize your vehicle with different themes based on snooty rich people things. The Navigator comes with 3: Yacht Club, Destination and Chalet. The color combos these things have are fantastic and tasteful.
Yacht Club,inspired by yachting of course, covers the interior in what Lincoln describes as Coastal Blue Venetian leather and yes you can get those 30 way power seats the Continental has.
Destination is inspired by traveling and leather bound books, which sees the interior covered in Maghoney Red Venetian leather.
The last of the themes, Chalet, is inspired by ski lodging and wintery backwoods. It sees the interior covered in Alpine Venetian leather which I think is the best of the 3.
You want to ride in style in any of these? Be prepared to balk at the sticker. All Black Label extended models with AWD start at just over $98 grand. $98,100 to be exact. Keep in mind this is before you add any of the options it has.
Paint option wise, there are 2: a blue color that matches the interior color of the Yacht Club theme is $1750. A weird gold color that I can only describe as dark honey mustard is the same price and doesn’t go with any of the interior color choices but for some reason you can get it with the Chalet theme which is terrible.
They come loaded started features wise. You get power running boards that are also illumited, and a pano Vista roof as 2 stand out standard features.
22' inch wheels are a grand. I added those.
A rear seat entertainement system with wireless headphones and dual screens is $1,995.
Those 30 way power seats that Lincolin touted in the Conti? $1,250.
All totaled? A what the fuck inducing $102,340. Or $1480 a month for 72 months with 10% down and a 4.9 apr. So if you wanted something thats not as passe or cliche as an Escalade and you didnt want to buy that small fixer upper for 100k, head down to your Lincoln dealer for this madness.

The rear seats do fold complete flat with the touch of a button, so theres room for like 2 people back there. But plastic bottles are a godsend in the bathroom regard.

Im glad I wasnt the only one to see what a jump Lincoln made with the Navigator. It’s still odd how much of a price gap there is between 3-row FWD CUVs and BOF SUVs now. Just look at the Traverse compared to Tahoe, QX60 vs QX80 and so on. Then look at the towing on these “real” SUVs and compare that to the wholly crossover Grand Cherokee and Durango. Im not sure if the 3-row BOF SUV class will exist after the coming generation.

GM always thorws more cash on the hood of those though. Well Im not sure about the Escalade but I know the Suburban and Tahoe have them.
And they care. Trust me. When I was a GMC salesperson, the amount of Denial buyers haggling over $50-$75 bucks on their monthly was way more than the people buying Acadias and Terrains. People that have money, upper middle class and above, but not millionaires, are the cheapest people.

Yea the price gap is huge, bigger than any other generation I think. But I do think this gen of these big SUV’s are on their last leg. Whatever they turn into in the next decade wont be what we see here.

Nope. Still thinly veiled Ford. But it does have some of the same Black Label interior color themes. This is the MKZ in Chalet. Looks nice, but its not the interior the Conti or Navi have of course.

The Land Rover reliability circlejerk is a little out of context. At the end of the day, the Rangie is much nicer to be inside than the Ford, given the materials and fitment quality - plus extremely capable off-road. You can even get more efficient engine options, making it more viable as a daily.

That all may be true. But my own research, combined with the Doug Demuro fiasco tell me other wise. And even then, interior quality in the Range can be hit and miss. The current gen seems to be holding together so far. But Im waiting till at least 2020 to see how these things have held up. There’s a reason why you can find last gen Range Rover Supercharged models under 15 grand.

Doug’s Range Rover was a different generation made back when the company was under different ownership. As mentioned earlier, you’d save a lot of money in fuel consumption, so I doubt there’s a notable difference in long-term cost. I’m also unsure what you mean by LR being hit and miss in terms of interior quality, but I’ll let that one slide.
It’s a luxury off-roader, so I’d prefer the car which is better at being luxurious and off-roading to begin with. The Lincoln might have maintenance costs on its side, but that’s where its perks end, from what I can see.

And this is 2017 model Navigator! Terrible. And At least Ford is going out of their way to differentiate the Navigator and Expedition. GM could take a lesson. All their full size suvs interiors are too similar to me. The Escalade gets the smallest exception.

A mess is a mess, regardless of how big a mess it used to be. the navi looks like it was heavily constrained by cooperate hard points and the solution was to put wood or leather on it. It looks a mess. Toyota knows the score, they have 2 identical trucks, one whos interior looks all business
And the other that looks different and genuinly luxury.
It can be done, Lincoln did it not.

Long term costs, fuel would be a big one with the Navigator switching to a 6. And when I say hit and miss I mean some owners have experienced issues that others havent. Ive seen things like touch screens not working, ill fitting trim pieces ( Car and Driver recently had one for a comparison test. The passenger side vent trim pulled off in someones hand) etc. But then other owners have had flawless ownership so far.
But I really would buy the Navigator over the Range Rover because its not a Range Rover or an Escalade. And I think it looks great and it can actually hold 7 people and their things.
