I have a friend who is putting out a series of devotionals (personal, not business related and not church affiliated) and is looking for the best way to SMS up to 100 or so people at a time. Any ideas? Best solution?

He was looking into Allo and other messaging apps, but is looking for a solution that doesn’t require recipients to install an app.

Using modern technology to spread ancient nonsense. Love the irony

You can email to SMS addresses if you know their provider. I recall att’s is ##########@txt.att.net (where the #’s are their mobile number). All the other carrier’s have them. We used to send out mass emergency messages from a lab I worked at that way during the flip-phone era.

why not email? Seems easier, all accessible with the same hardware and has more options for content. That or use a social media platform.

Do they actually have the consent of 100+ people? People who do this rarely do and usually end up spamming the hell out of the numbers they get. I think email would be best that way if someone doesn’t want to participate any more they can unsubscribe and you can’t do that via text message.

I, and many educators, use an app called Remind (formerly known as Remind 101). Students and parents text a subscribe code to a phone number provided by Remind. Then I, as the teacher, send an announcement to the class via the app, and everyone subscribed to the class receives the announcement via SMS.

It’s primarily a one-way communication tool, it keeps phone numbers of both the senders and receivers confidential. All messages sent are recorded permanently as well, so that the system can’t be abused for private or inappropriate conversations. Super super handy.
