Kinja'd!!!

Well, I fell off the wagon, again, last weekend and posted like an idiot. Don’t run away yet!  I’m sorry for that. I’ll go through any comments and apologise or reply. Going forward I’m using Craig Ferguson’s three rules. No worries.

Kinja'd!!!

I finally pulled the trigger on a new to me vehicle! And it is good!

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a 2003 Suburban (K 1500 according to the title huh). It’s loaded. Kidney squeezers? Lumbar? Leather? Heated seats? I miss heated seats! I frigging love heated seats! Arrows in the side view mirrors? I’m getting spoiled. It’s been better than ten years since I’ve driven something this good.

Kinja'd!!!

It came with a stack of receipts too. The front suspension was rebuilt last year, new Autoride bits, new, new, new everywhere.. It drives so nice too. Super nice. The best nice there is. Nobody else has it this nice! ;)

Immediate concerns are a crack in the windshield (Safelite comes tomorrow) and it needs tires soon.

Why am I so excited? It’s just a Suburban? Well, I’m a wanderer. That’s how I put 40k on old Crusty in 3 years. Flip a coin, pick a direction and drive. I got my money out of that truck and I’ll get it out of this one too. In a little more style this time.

Keep an eye on the rear pinion seal, rear hearted glass and 4wd heater dealy. Other than that these are pretty good.

The rear axle was actually rebuilt two years ago. He said the diff cover rusted through on a road trip and blew.

He says the rear defrogger works. I have yet to test it though.

It does need a new T case actuator. That’s a bit pricey.

I have to say I am not surprised the rear diff blew. Did he say who rebuilt it?

Wow, cool find! Why can’t any of my cars ever come with a stack of receipts? I’m jealous.

Bird Chevrolet. It wound up at a dealership!

Honestly? I bought the thing when he pulled it into the driveway. He came to me (he was at the HyVee, short trip) I didn’t even drive it. It looks that well cared for. I drove it back to his house and he let me into his garage, we bonded over 3 wheelers/ice racing, some GM foibles and the deal was done.

Welcome to Club Bigly! You’ll love it here. It’s fantastic to own a vehicle that can do literally everything! Except, of course, achieve better than 12.5 mpg... Your half ton should do much better. Also, I’m jealous of your seats!

I wish mine was a 2500! I love those wheels.

One thing you’ll never hear me complain about is gas mileage. When it was close to $5/gallon I was completely happy cruising around in an 83 Cherokee Chief with a nasty Wagoneer in backup. I can make more money. I can’t deal with miserable penalty box cars. I need to “manspread”.

Nice purchase!!! I am jelly!

A buddy of mine has the cleanest GMT-800 Suburban you’ve laid eyes on since they were new. Every time I see him, I ask him how my Suburban is. I want to make that my summer truck, and keep the Sierra for winters.

That’s the truth. I’ve owned a few economy cars... I figure paying more at the pump is better than hating everything about a car. I had a 2009 Focus coupe with a 5 speed. Sounds like fun, no? Worst car I ever owned.

I was kind of hoping Jasper Engines so I could say I did it.

Thanks! I’m in love with this thing. It’s like driving my favorite recliner. It’s not perfect but compared to what I’ve been looking at lately it’s the cream of the crop.

I will be making a few changes over the next couple of weeks.

Seriously! I had people at work offering me some very good, cheap cars. Usually an Olds or Buick with low miles and in good shape. I had a hard time explaining how I just couldn’t see myself driving those cars and missed a few flip opportunities. I need to feel something every time I even look at my DD. Weird..

It’s definitely a good buy.

Any chance I could talk you into rallycrossing Crusty next weekend? We’re still five drivers short to make the minimum go-number.
