I was to do this over Christmas, then I realized it’ll be too cold out.

Terrible prep work... lots of scratches still visible. But I guess as long as it isn’t peeling like the factory paint plating.

what are they? Look like interior trim bits.

Yep, the trim pieces on the steering wheel controls, they were peeling.

Hit those suckers with a little hi fill primer first. It’ll take care of those scratches no problem and give good adhesion to the top coat.

Can also pay somebody to vinyl wrap them for a bit of cash.

Yeah, I think I’ll leave them for now, until it peels again. Though I do have a few months before I re-install them. I figured I should’ve got some filler, overdid the sanding to get the original paint off.

issue you had is they are coated with water base and you used a solvent based paint, you can tell by the way the finish wrinkled and sand scratches raised. Stripping them is the best option if you plan to spray them again.

Oh the top edge in the first pic I didn’t sand at all, that goes under the airbag so it’s not visible. Even at the factory that part where it wrinkled was only partially painted.

The scratch marks was due to me using too low of a grit and induced some really deep scratches. I probably need to strip it all again with thinner then resurface with a filler, then paint again.
