Kinja'd!!!

They have an awesome tiny formula 1 replica they actually use in racing, sponsored by Nissan.

It’s now on my top lists of colleges, right next to Princeton (if I choose not to pursue a career in cars)

What if I told you Princeton also has an SAE team?

There are a large number of schools whose engineering programs participate in Formula SAE.

Princeton is actually Formula Hybrid Electric. UVM AERO (my team) kicks their butt each year.

Formula SAE, educate yourself on it .

That’s a formula SAE car, and nearly any and every state University has one, as well as the bigger name private schools. Rutgers is hardly the only one.

If I were going in to an engineering program (and I’m not sure I would), I’d check and see their class sizes for freshman classes (taught by TAs, or no), their attrition rate (probably high), and how their senior design projects are done. A lot of senior design projects are just slave labor for the professor’s research area, or they’re a competition. So if you’re hoping to create something for senior design, you’re going to be disappointed.

There’s nothing wrong with NJ!

Formula SAE can be an excellent program. I did it and loved it, even though it was torture. It was the most like a real professional engineering project, but I spent 30 hours per week on it or more. That’s on top of a full class load and paying job.

Keep in mind that not everyone gets to drive the racecar, at least not often.

Does Princeton have one? I’m now really interested in FSAE

Similar to FSAE is solar car racing. In my opinion it’s more design driven than engineering driven, something worth looking into.

I’m on a solar car team for my university. I also agree with your Jersey doesn’t suck sentiment, I was born in Flemington.

Here’s our past car, Apperion seen racing at the Formula Sun Grand Prix this past summer at Circuit of the Americas. It’s a challenger class car made for peak efficiency. Currently I’m on the design team for a new cruiser class car, a multi occupant solar car designed to be used everyday. I’d show you what I’m working on but they’re a secret until we finish the car in the spring. Here are some crusier class cars that competed in the World Solar Challenge earlier this month. The race goes from Darwin Australia to Adelaide.

It’s not traditional motorsport, but it’s the way the industry is going.

That’s Bochum from Germany. Always amazing work out of them. They came in 2nd in the World Solar challenge.

yep, Formula SAE. that was my senior project. Would have done well but for a failed crank position sensor.
