Has gotten into another crash. Seriously. Your passenger was able to foresee that the car was likely going to pull out since they possibly didn’t notice you change lanes. But you didn’t swerve because you weren’t sure the lane you JUST CAME FROM was unoccupied.

I’ve nearly been on the receiving end of a lane changer like that on multiple occasions. Look right: nothing’s in the lane I’m turning into, look left, car in the left lane, nothing in the right lane, start pulling out, fucking car changes lanes without signalling. Like WTF are you TRYING to hit me?

This is why I always hesitate to pull out into an empty near lane when there is traffic in other lanes. I’m probably holding up traffic by doing so, and I could probably get away with it most of the time. (After all, people are major left lane hogs in my area, often leaving the right lane wide open.)
In my state, they’re required to return to the right lane after passing (unless preparing to turn left). So that means I have to be on my toes, anticipating that they’ll merge right at any second (even though they usually don’t). And I’m not sure if that default right-of-way gets forfeited in my favor when they fail to signal their merge.

I get the sense that Greaper is super-frustrated by shitty drivers and therefore wants to allow the consequences of their stupidity to play out naturally. He’s a decent driver for the most part, but I think he uses his assumed right-of-way to just plow through, while neglecting some of his own “due care” responsibilities.

I’ve driven well over half a million miles in the last 30 years without an accident. It’s not that hard - the secret is to not do this kind of stupid shit. Even if it’s not his “fault” he’s a major contributing cause.
I wonder if he’s actively TRYING do do this shit to make the videos more interesting. If so he should be beaten with his dash cam.

I don’t know if his right of way is assumed - I haven’t seen anything where he’d be found at fault. He’s just neglecting a duty to drive defensively, no doubt in order to punish the witless lesser mortals he shares the road with, and to get some funny footage. He’s a symptom of the disease of awful driving, heavily enabled by a dysfunctional enforcement community, arbitrary usually toothless fines, and shitty driver training.

Yeah, assumed might be the wrong word here. Come to think of it, his driving style feels like it’s less bout assumptions, and more about demands . He tries to be a “good” driver, and demands that others do likewise. He doesn’t leave much room for anything else.

I think that’s it. I sympathize with him. I am usually stuck in the mindset that driving is serious business, and become irritated when the dopes I share the road with don’t use the same mentality. But instead of letting them hit me, I employ healthy release, and just yell and swear a bit, don’t let it build up :) Maybe a horn now and then too, which in the Seattle area is the equivalent to spitting on a nun. Although sometimes I think if I drove a big old truck, what I might let happen with a tacit smile.
