“All over the world – in Japan, North America, Europe, China – more and more voices are expressing the desire to reinvent S2000.

If the sales people investigate, look at it and they’re really enthusiastic, maybe we look at it.”

“As of today, I cannot say clearly that S2000 will be reinvented as further studies are necessary,” [Honda boss Takahiro] Hachigo said at the Tokyo motor show .

Beyond that, he appeared open to the idea of an S2000 making a comeback: “I’ve already heard many voices expressing they’d like a next-generation S2000. Honda development engineers are quick to develop sporty cars if the requests are there.

“However, it has not matured yet. It’s not time yet. We need time to decide if S2000 is reinvented or not.”

Stretch out the S660 a bit and put the Civic Type R drivetrain in it. Done.

Kinja'd!!!

I would take the the S660 all day if they’d put a decent engine in (and make LHD and sell it outside JDM). Via turbothinging it’s possible to get 200 hp from just 1 litre. Would be plenty sufficient. It’s RWD already, so that is a good thing.

Very true. I wonder how difficult it would be to make the 1.5T fit in it. I’d buy one if they sold it with that engine. Shit, I’d even buy an S660 as is if they sold it here.

And the second they come out with a lightweight RWD sports car, people will complain that it doesn’t have enough power.

Yeah, that would probably happen if they put anything less than the 2.0T in it.

The only thing I hope is that the new s2k is more driver oriented, I like the new NSX but all of the assists are keeping the driver and the car separated, the nsx is a masterpiece in tech, but not for the driver. Let’s get a manual transmission non hybrid 4 cylinder rwd, (or even AWD!) Sports car.

Plus I’d like it to have a coupe version or a hardtop option, well because I live in Ohio and DD a dedicated convertible would be a pain.

They could offer a base that’s effectively an SI and then a Type R variant but still people would complain about it. Because of course they would. People probably would have complained if Toyota put a V6 in the FRS

Well, around these parts people would complain if Honda cured cancer, so you’re probably right.

I think there could be a business case made for a Fit (Jazz) Si - turbo 1.5, decent brakes, a few suspension and style tweaks, voila. That would be a super fun, tossable in the twisties but still very functional car.

non hybrid

I wouldn’t mind a mild hybrid set-up. As long as it is still (front-)mid-egined, RWD, manual, 2-seater, minimum nannies (ABS has it’s merits).

A hardtop that make it look like a fastback would be huge!

The S2000 still looks good as is. Reinvention should have a very heavy dose of the original design language.

I hate the new NSX with a passion.
