Can these be used the way I think they can?

Kinja'd!!!

So my Formula Hybrid team has a old (expired 2016) six point Schroth harness. If I were to make an offer to buy them from the team could I buy a replacement camlock from Schroth in a left or right lap belt fixed design and use them as a 4 point in my car? They would only be used for better holding me in the seat at autocrosses and nothing else. Figured I can probably get them really cheap so why not.

Yep. All (most) of their systems can swap camlocks. Schroth is having some supply chain issues with camlocks atm though so if you’re in any sort of rush.... Call to check on availability

Cool. Its not a hurry thing at all, they would likely sit in a box at home for a while until I can come up with a nifty way to install a shoulder bar into my car. When the time comes I will head to HMS motorsport and have them confirm what I have, what camlock I need, and get bolt mounts installed in place of the clips that are on the belts now.

To mount:

Step 1: swap for works gp

Step 2: use mounting bar in works gp

A strut bar mount is the most straight forward method but I would like to still be able to use my trunk and occasionally cram someone into the rear seat. That means I need to come up with either something out of the way or easily removable. I also want to keep the rear seats in so I don’t get class points.

Oh right.... Back seat. That complicates things.

What’s the reasoning behind the new camlock? Couldn’t you just either use it as is and enjoy the crazyness of a six point harness, or use the current camlock minus the sub straps for a four point belt without any extra cost? Or are you trying to get a pushbutton?

My lap belt is bolted in, but the sub strap is a clip on so I can go from 4 to 6 point in seconds. Schroth Asm camlock is technically only street legal with the 4 point setup, but it accepts a sub strap so I figured I might as well add it when on the track

The current camlock is fixed to the sub belts and I’m not moving away from the factory seat. As such I need a new camlock to be able to secure the belts without the sub belts.

I try to avoid putting people in the rear seats and you can’t fit someone in the seat behind me anyway but I do need to maintain the trunk space with the seats down for moving in and out of college.

Oh that makes sense. I’ve gotten so used to belt mounted ones. I wonder if that’s something that could be taken apart and setup differently...?

I thought that might be a possibility but then why would they sell the cam locks in different configurations? They have to be pulled apart to install the belts anyway.

I would only use 6 point as 6 point and only trust Schroth’s 4 point specially designed for that application.

On a safety front I agree but this is a case of me being able to get them for super cheap to use for autocross and autocross only.
