Hello Oppo,

After having owned a lot of modified and fun cars like a 335i, M104 190e x2, Legacy GT, E39 540i, I found something that I wanted for a long time. A 2006 CL65. It had to be a 2006 (1 of 52 world wide) and black on black because black on black.

The car has full dealer service history, 69k miles, and is now at a friend’s shop getting a front bumper refresh to delete front plate holes, as well as a new ABC pump+fluid for good measure.

So far, very happy with the car. It is very smooth and refined yet brutal.

Here are some photos.

Hell yeah, we’ve got another Benz V12 oppo ! My 2004 S600 is in the shop right now getting a new ABC pump and a few lines replaced, but I should have her back sometime next week.

Congrats, its beautiful! I think these have aged remarkably well. You’ll have to keep us posted on the maintenance/upkeep. I’ve always longed for one, though I’d be scared of maintenance costs on that V12. I’m considering a CL500 though, perhaps a CL55 - they are becoming quite affordable.

Nice! This thing looks like a beast with the black on black combo.

How was your 335i?

It’s not the V12 you have to worry about. It’s the ABC, which the CL55 and sometimes the 500 have also. I’ve had a S600 for a few years and the majority of the money I’ve spent fixing it (which I should add is a considerable amount) has been on ABC. In fact, I haven’t had any V12 specific issues, just stuff common to the W220/215 chassis. So far as I can tell I’ve got near about $18,200 in just maintenance into the car, spread out over 21,000 miles, or about $1.15 a mile in just upkeep. Factor in the payment ($17,000), gas($3,335 roughly), and insurance($7000 roughly) I’m at roughly $2.16 a mile all in. That being said, I’d gladly do it again tomorrow.

Holy hell congrats! I’ve been obsessed with these since I was a kid and I’ve promised myself I’ll own one one day if it kills me.

I’ve never been a fan of factory studded rims so that’s the only thing I would change personally but absolutely stunning machine in black no less.

Thanks!

If my 335i didn’t get totaled three years ago, I’d keep it for a long time. It was probably (until now) the best all-around car I owned. It was an ‘09 Black/red awd Msport manual car. Always recommend them to people especially now that they got so cheap. I was very close to buying a 335is before finding this CL65.

As was stated, besides coil packs in the v12, which I don’t really understand the hype about because it’s not like they cost $10,000, ABC is the main potential problem area. Yes, it can be deleted, but what’s the point of removing one of the coolest and important parts of the vehicle? I ordered the abc fluid from fcpeuro and plan on taking advantage of their lifetime exchange and warranty and flushing it with every other oil change. People who know a lot about ABC systems always say that it will outlast the car’s life if the fluid and filters are changed regularly.

I was cross-shopping CL55's as they are arguably more fun anywhere short of an interstate highway. I’d go for it because CL55/65 are at their bottom point in my opinion and are quickly becoming a classic

Hell yeah! My pump was fine and I actually have a 5 min clip of the car doing the rodeo at my buddy’s shop, but it whines which usually means the dampener is going bad or the pump itself. So I decided to get a new pump and hopefully not deal with ABC issues while taking advantage of the fcpeuro free lifetime exchange policy and flushing the fluid every other oil change.

Thank you! I don’t understand the expensive maintenance hype (yet). Coil pack $1000, ok, what else would you expect. ABC? Refurbished pump is less than $400. Servicing at the dealer, I understand, super expensive, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I have a great technician that knows a great amount about MB cars and so far has solved many silly issues for me that would cost an arm and a leg at the dealer.

Shame it got totaled. I’m loving my ‘09 335i for the 30k+ I’ve had it for so far.

It’s a shame that it got totaled. It had 34k on it at the time, and was so so so fun to drive. Best of luck with yours! I hope it has at least a jb with a back end flash and intakes/charge pipes/downpipes!

Not yet! Been enjoying the reliability so far haha. Planning some stuff soon (custom exhaust work, custom tune, intercooler, downpipe)

$18k in maintenance?! Holy crap... makes the money I’ve spent on my M3 over the past 65k seem perfectly reasonable.

Fair warning, not all dealers are bad. I service mine at the dealer and their labor rate is less than most of the indies in my area, and my mechanic there is just fantastic. I can bring my own parts, ask whatever I like, and they usually give me a 10-15% discount too. I realize mine is more of an exception, but they’re still fantastic.
