Kinja'd!!!

The more I think I need a Ford Raptor in my life. I half jokingly suggested that we replace the wife’s Honda Pilot and she was surprisingly down for it. Even texting me pictures of people driving “her truck”

Plus with this already in the garage what an awesome fleet of Fords I would have!

Do you own an oil refinery?

I’m not generally a truck guy, or a Ford guy, but yes, you do need one.

Need and want have two very different meanings. But if you want to fill a need then the internet is not going to dissuade you. Though we reserve the right to feed on any misfortune that may result.

I read that as:

The more I think I need a Ford Ranger in my life

I could be open to owning a Ford Ranger M-Sport.

They don’t sound cool anymore.

They sound at least as good as an Ecoboost Mustang-which they pretty much match in the 1/4 mile.

I never understood the point of Raptors though, what makes them special to you, may I ask?

They look cool and are fast for a truck. Then you get the truck benefits of cargo room, spacious cabin, and sitting up high

Or you could hold out for the Ranger Raptor.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

All that Raptor awesomeness in a slightly smaller package. The only problem with that is that you’re looking at probably 2 years before they go on sale and another year after that before dealers quit putting markups on them.

But the old raptor is about the same but cheaper and has six point two liters of fury!!

Except harder to load cargo because of ride height over a regular truck. Smaller bed than a regular truck too because Raptor, right?

99% of Raptors I see look like they’ve never been off-road, which is sort of a shame. All their owners seem to do is bolt up a LED lightbar.

Because they look awesome and have a cool name. There is a lot more sense of occasion to it over a regular truck.

That’s pretty much it. I do live fairly close to some off road trails too, or I would lower it and put it in steelies with some sticky tires.

Your getting the Ford Ranger next year but I don’t believe it’s this one. There may be a new Ranger coming out before then.

Is that a good enough reason for 11 mpg?

You have an S3 logo for your avatar, have you taken it to a track day? So people haven’t been offroad, big whoop. It’s their car. I bet it’s still fun on the road.

And how many truck owners actually use their trucks to truck anyways? It’s still more cargo room than my Mustang has, and at least equivalent to most hatchbacks. May not be easy to load but who cares? The Raptor is to trucks what the Wrangler is to CUVs. More capable but less practical than their lesser bretheren, but they project a cool image and inspire fun. I’m a fan.

Yeah to be honest I never cared that much about MPG

And it’s over 1 second slower to 60 and in the 1/4, gets significantly worse fuel economy, and is simply outclassed off road by the new truck’s suspension. If that’s “about the same” then go for it, but on paper the EB/10 speed just works.

Not yet, but it’s still on the all-season tires it came with when I bought it n June (actively looking for a track/autox set of wheels). Have been to an autocross though where it did great, despite the crappy tires. Second in class (BS) to a STI on 200tw tires. Not bad.

It’s also not a purpose built sports car, unlike a purpose built truck who bros seem to think belongs better cruising down the strip and hanging in mall parking lots.

My point being, who cares how they use it? The raptor isn’t a purpose built off road truck just like your S3 isn’t a purpose built track car. Is it better equipped for offroading than a standard truck? Sure, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be driven on the street.

Except that every Raptor owner I’ve talked to about his truck has literally referred to it as a “purpose-built off-road truck” as they proudly stand next to their squeaky-clean truck outside Starbucks. Obviously anecdotal, but that’s my experience.

It’s the same as talking to a GT350 owner who doesn’t track their car. Just a shame. But like you said, it’s their money and they can spend it and use the product however they choose.

All of that said, it’s not like I off-road literally ever, so it’s not surprising that the only ones I see would be on-road.

Haha, it’s just that when someone says they want a Raptor, I like to hear something more than “because they look awesome and have a cool name”, I like to hear they will use the truck for what it was designed for, at least a little.

Yeah I would probably off road it a couple of times a year. I live close to Holister Hills and Pismo. The rest of the time it would be my wife’s daily driver.
