I didn’t believe the girl I met freshman year of college when she told me she had a 2wd Jeep Grand Cherokee. Then she started talking about other cars and seemed to know a lot, so I believed her. She was right. And a small part of me died inside, to know that such a thing existed. Of course, she was from Florida.
She was cool (still is). The car? Not so much.

There is such a thing as a RWD Series Land Rover. A bunch of them were requested for some NATO convoy vehicle contract type thing, and Rover went “okay, what the fuck ever” and assembled them. They have a dummy or closed front axle case (can’t remember what that part looks like) and a plate over the front of the transfer case. Because of course they still have a transfer case. What were they going to do, engineer a different place for the driveshaft?
There are also of course FWD-only Series III rescue vehicles, because hydraulic low-deck flatbed.

Why? Nobody said it needed to be 4wd.
RAV4's acronym denotes 4wd. Jeep’s brand is built off a 4wd legacy. This is neither of those things.

Z66 is actually a softer suspension for on-road. You could get a 2WD with Z71 though

I don’t know how many 2WD Z71s were sold, but the Z66 sold real well. It had remarkably good road manners and was as soft as a Cadillac (lol Escalade EXT)

Fun fact, she’s now working for Car and Driver (I think) and has an M3, among other interesting cars. And she takes the M3 on the track. She’s also a partner in blipshift.
