Race day!
We had wanted to get to the track early to get a decent view of the start and turn 1. Walking along the track, we saw through the fence at the beginning of the start/finish straight, that the hill was already packed.
Then we realized this was actually a pretty cool view for the start of the race, and not wanting to lose our perch we decided to park ourselves for the 2 hours until the race.
Unfortunately it had rained that morning and was a tad muddy.
Then I had the idea to utilize the poncho I brought with me. Sticks and pointy rocks proved to be quality anchors.
We took turns getting lunch before the race start. Corn dogs and free Johnnie Walker samples.
Parade.
Romain clears a wedgie.
By the time the cars started to make their way out other people realized this area was a pretty cool view and started gathering in the mud with us.
I wanted to both record and watch the start myself so I trusted my arm to hold the camera steady. My arm can’t be trusted.

The group of Germans behind me were quite happy with the start.
The race was underway.
Stayed here for a few laps before moving on to another spot.

I didn’t stay put in one place for long and kept moving about to different spots.
I had a fantastic time at the race and was ecstatic that any of these came out halfway decent.

There’s still mud on my shoes. And my truck. I’m glad it cleared up for the race though. I would’ve been out there in the mud with you but I got super lucky and upgraded to a suite through a friend of a friend for race day.
