Well, considering it is Canada, they could simply open the outside doors to the building as well. Then you’ll have cold beer...

Random thought.... Liquor stores should ONLY sell warm drinks. That way you need to take it home before you drink it. Would cut down on DUI slightly, and I don’t really see much of a downside.

By opening it outside the store, that already violates open container laws (which, IMO, is also stupid and doesn’t prevent anything). DUIers simply don’t give a shit.

Right, that’s why I’m saying we should make it less appealing to drink right away.

I think open container laws are stupid, myself. I see no reason why the passengers shouldn’t be allowed to drink if that’s what gets them their giddies... it’s not like the driver is suddenly allowed to drink. And it’s not going to make the driver more likely to drink. If that’s what they want to do they’re going to do it anyway.

Frankly all it does is give the cops a toy to play with.

“Open containers? Have a fine.”

“But I wasn’t drinking.”

“I literally have a tool on my belt that can prove that you did nothing wrong, but imma fine you anyway.”

*For the record I’ve never been in this situation, but I still feel it’s pathetic.

That hurts the beer. It’s temperature should fluctuate as little as possible before drinking. NEVER HURT THE BEER

Besides, that takes many craft brews right out of the running. There are a fair number of bottle carbonated crafts out there, you don’t want those getting warm for very long. They just continue to ferment and build pressure... and when one goes off it’s not pretty. I was in a brewery once where they had left a case of the stuff down behind the counter... the guy that was running the show was lucky he’d left the room for a couple minutes or he’d have had glass through his legs.

Not just in a car, but open public in general. I never understood why you cannot drink in the open if you are a responsible person. If you get shitfaced in the public, THEN you get arrested.

One thing I like about Hong Kong, you can drink wherever you want as long as you aren’t a public nuisance. Grabbing a drink at 7-Eleven and going to the rooftop parking overlooking the harbour with a bunch of friends was my favourite past time back in the days.

So ruin it for the rest of everyone who is responsible and/or not driving because of a few human scum...

I more or less get what they’re going for by stopping general public consumption... people wandering around town drinking etc. But the reality is most people would rather relax with their drink than wander around the city, and those who do act like that are going to do that anyway. Who cares? How many of those get shitfaced enough to be a nuisance anyway? They could just as easily come out of a bar and do the same stuff.

Good news is it looks like T.O. is thinking of allowing drinking in parks. Bad news is that’s not enough. Why the hell can’t I take a cooler to the beach? Perfect place for it. And protip, you can, as long as you don’t act like an ass. That’s all most reasonable people care about.

I agree with this.

In New Hampshire, they have a system where you can take a partial bottle of wine home from a restaurant. This makes perfect sense because you just overpaid for that bottle and most people will be damned if they are leaving a single drop behind . So... now the restaurant can put it in a bag and staple the top with a copy of your bill, so you can take it home, rather than feeling like you gotta drink it all.

Or, you know, you could just put it in your car and not drink it. But at least this allows for a way around the rule so you don’t drink more before driving.

___

On a separate note: I’m always amused when I take my recycling to the dump, because I basically have dozens of “open containers” in the car. Now, what if I wanted to drink a beer on my way to the dump? (I don’t, for the record) I sure as hell could have an open beer in the car, then if I got pulled over, just be sure to finish it and throw it in with the others before the officer comes up to the car. No, officer, it’s just my recycling!

Let me reiterate: I do NOT do this, nor would I. Just sayin’
