Kinja'd!!!

I love Japanese school lunches at less than $3 a meal, they are absolutely positively delicious, massive, and filling. Sure beats the mystery stuff I had at my JHS/HS. But they are also specifically designed for Japanese adolescents, as such, most adults will add pounds from them. Me, however, I have a super fast metabolism and so it does as well for me as it does for the kids.

I consider a lot of Japanese food to be kind of weird (I don’t like anything from the sea), but that looks really good.

Also, can confirm the asian metabolism.

I’d eat that, looks like my preferred food: carbs, carbs and more carbs.

If only. Typically bread in that shape will be koppepan, which is just a plain roll.

This has a slight chocolate taste. I believe they added some chocolate powder to the mix.

And protein. Fish, tofu, and chicken.

The Japanese know how to lunch. There’s was a bento box place by my old work. Super cheap, lots of food, and $5 pint and saki specials.

Yes but where are the fish sticks, pudding and fruit cocktail? (Honestly, that looks really good...)

Those actually ARE fish sticks on the plate. But they are far, far, FAR superior in quality to anything you’d get stateside. And actually we do sometimes have a small bowl of fruit cocktail.

Oh nice! You got the flavoured koppepan. The ones we get usually have dried pineapples or raisins in them. Chocolate sounds pretty good. I hope we get that sometime.

It’s very, very rare. We had an honest to God pork chop a few weeks ago. I was amazed.

I was all about the Curry and Hayashi rice, myself, back in the day.

...is that Japanese? I know kolache, and they look nothing like this. They always have exposed fruit on top, too.

There are 3 styles that i’ve seen at least locally. The round/fruit ones aka “Czech” style. The baseball looking ones that are filled with breakfast stuff a la Kolache Factory. Last, the kind very commonly seen in Kat’s former Texas that looks like the image she posted above.

That looks amazing. Light years beyond what I had in school

Only the first is a kolache, the rest are something else. The roll in the picture is definitely nothing like one.

Texas making abominations that they call “kolache” is offensive to me, perhaps more offensive than people in Utah making fry bread and calling it a “scone”.
