Kinja'd!!!

It’s already got that disappointed look on its face, don’t want to spread rumors behind its back and make it more disappointed.

Is the dad paying for it too? If not, he’s got no right to force you to overpay.

No of course not. Amd he didnt force her but totally underminded me. She just paid the same as a 2018 on a 2017 and acted like i was being an asshole when I was asking why we were paying 2018 prices for a 2017. And vasically just took the guy for his word while her father was like ges a good guy blah blah blah. Sheep to slaughter.

Ugh, that sucks. I’m sorry that you have to put up with that. Hopefully being with her makes it worthwhile though.

FFS WHY.

Legally you can still return it.

And not get something made for rental fleets and only 12k miles of use.

That’s painful. For a lot of reasons.

My wife likes to control almost everything she’s responsible for, but cars are the one exception - she’s realized that I can get her what she wants but at a much lower cost.

And yeah, sometimes father does NOT know best.

That’s kinda how we ended up with an Explorer. At least my father in law was shrewd enough to negotiate a good deal and supportive enough to make the down payment.

But we still ended up with an Explorer.

with the GM dealer, we get 6k for the car, plus 3500 cash and she gets her grandfathers GM employee discount

Quote from your last post about this situation that showed up in the sidebar. Did y’all still get all of this off of the 18 sticker?

I agree that it’s absurd to pay 18 sticker on a 17, but if you’re getting all of that toward the price of the car, starting at sticker (actual sticker, not next year’s) seems reasonable to me.

I’m not a relationship counselor, but I can see this is a big problem. Financial decisions like this need to be agreed on by both parties. And Dad is not one of those parties.

Funny story. When my wife bought her last car, I went with her. She wanted to work the deal on her own and didn’t really want input from me. Okay, if you say so.

Well, we weren’t really getting a deal that I thought was remotely fair, so I asked for the keys to the trade in. 4 times. Each time, they were “almost done” with evaluating it. After being there over an hour since the first time I asked for the keys, I had had enough. I said, rather loudly. I WANT THE KEYS NOW. This prompted the salesman to leave and the floor manager to come over to see if everything was alright. I guess me getting loud with them paid off, as she got a fair deal on her new car and about 2k over what I thought she would have gotten for her trade in.

She finally agreed that having me there was a good thing, because otherwise she would have been taken to the cleaners.

That’s great that you were able to find a way to help her, without pissing her off.

My wife likes to control things in general, so when it comes to picking out *what* car she wants, I just help her with suggestions on what to look at and features, etc. to look for. I don’t really care what she drives - she’s the one living with it daily, not me. If it makes her happy, then fine.

Funny thing is, though, is that she’s way better at saving $$ on virtually everything *other* than cars. I have zero patience for shopping around for small stuff, clipping coupons, etc. She enjoys that - but hates car shopping (which I love doing). So it balances out. :)
