Buick averages 31.2% depreciation in the first year of ownership. That makes a projected year old buy of the top level Tour-X essence , a used price near $25,000. That’s for an AWD heated leather car, including bells, and whistles , with only 15,000 miles on it. Would that be a future crack pipe price or possibly the steal of the century?

I feel the scale here is highly weighted on either end and not in the middle. Historical GM brand cars horribly depreciate but this one could be built so well it’s worth the effort to consider the thing. In the end, will it hold up or fall off the value cliff? We have kinda been waiting for more of this kind of car, yet the buying public aren’t enthusiastically buying the VW Golf Sportwagen. If you walk up now to a VW dealer, they might just give you one with a free pony inside. So what’s the future of this Tour-X?

I had an S-10 that developed a burning electrical smell every time I turned left, rented a Chevy Cruze whose seats un-circulated my legs, and drove a Cobalt whose sheet metal near the lower windshield loudly buzzed at any speed over 72 mph. Can GM do well with this?

Can I LS swap it?

What’s the crystal oppoball say?

Buy new because

Warranty

So they’ll continue to make them, so that I can get a wagon instead of a CUV when I have kids one day/ever.

It’s a Buick so I’d imagine not very fast. Plus it’s a niche car, for the guy who wants a nicer Outback. But I have a feeling that’s a big niche.

Counterpoint: your car not losing 31% of its value in one year.

You won’t be able to buy it new if no one buys it new.

Honorable menton:

umm, buicks depreciate 31% first year.....so thats pretty fast. but i agree the niche might be good for this one, but the outback class buyer has to trust the Buick GM car or theyre just going to go Outback out of known quantity.

Virtually any new car depreciates like a shot duck, especially in the first year. If you are financing said shot duck then it’s probably not a sane thing to do. Leasing? Maybe. Paying cash and then driving it till it dies...then it doesn’t matter, eh?

Perhaps so, but the average rate is 21%, which makes this brand sink 50% faster than an average car. If we add factors such as, like the VW version, nobody wants it, then how much faster...

Truth is....it’s a new car. As in never before seen on the market.

If it is actually good and marketed properly then it may be less VW Passat and more Subaru Outback or worse, Toyota Tacoma on the used market in a year or two.

Personally, don’t sweat what you can’t afford. Or aren’t willing to pay for. There’s more to life than that.

The Holden version is on our radar to replace our well aged Subaru Forester. But until we know what the back seat legroom for lanky people is...I’m not going to waste valuable hours dwelling on it...

Manual RWD V8 sedan is a hard sell in the states. Don’t think there will ever be another new one (unless you count like a HeckKitty Charger maybe? Those have a stick right?)

I believe you can get a stick in one of those.

I want this to succeed, but I have a sinking feeling that it will be handily outsold by the freaking Encore

If you keep it until it’s a beater, it’s not really an issue!
