Hi Oppo.

I’m going to be in the Bay Area for a few days on business, so I’m asking for your recommendations- food, sights, stuff to do, getting around, etc. Thanks!

Hi, I’ve been there several times. Try to leave as quickly as possible. Don’t eat any food that was invented in the US. Asian food in SF is my go to, any kind.

Don’t miss Muir Woods & Muir Beach and the drive down to Stinson Beach.

Monterey and Carmel are awesome if you can get down there. The aquarium & Cannery Row, 17 Mile Drive, Laguna Seca Raceway is nearby.

I’m clearly assuming you have a rental car...

The area is rather large, where will you be and will you have access to a car? Food preferences?

Near SFO. Probably won’t have a rental. As for food, I’ll try just about anything once.

I live right near the Golden Gate, if you have questions ask away. I know the best driving roads, etc...

Near SFO is not the city and it’s a wasteland with business hotels. I would get far from there.

Check out Alameda! It’s nice hidden gem surrounded by docks, warehouses, and Oakland. There’s this great German food place there called Speisekammer.

If not, take the scenic route down Highway 1 and check out Pacifica, Davenport, and Santa Cruz. The Davenport Roadhouse has live music. Downtown Santa Cruz is pretty lively at night too, though be careful around the bike routes. The homeless here bite more than the coyotes.

Although, if you want your dose of motorcycle porn or just want a fun route to cruise on, check out Alice’s Restaurant on the intersection of Route 84 La Honda and Skyline Boulevard. Ask for the Bison Burger!

Hence why I’m in the area...

I plan on taking a cab or Uber to the stuff that should be seen.

Sadly, I’ll not have a car. I’m looking for good restaurant recommendations and stuff to do on the weekend- I arrive before noon on a Sunday, so I’ll have the day to explore. I’m ok hoofing it or finding a bikeshare.

Well that really depends on the kind of food, a cool street with good seafood (woodhouse fish Co.) and a good burger place (Roam) is Fillmore and the main part of Fillmore is right near Japantown. Best Vietnamese noodle house is Turtle Tower 645 Larkin St. I like the go to The Grove for breakfast sometimes, has a fun street casual feel, they do other meals I’m sure. I hang out there a lot because my wife works right near there, it’s not a cheap street but it’s nice and very SF neighborhood-y. I hate Fisherman’s wharf etc... it’s gross and the restaurant I mentioned will have all that just in a less seedy environment. Sausalito is good too, some touristy stuff but overall they control it, you have to ride over the bridge for that but you might want to, ferry goes there and you could go for a ride and bring the bike too.

Thanks for the advice. I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to food. I tend to explore areas on my stomach, and it’s only bitten me once. I spend a lot of time on a bicycle as it is, so I’d be delighted to explore on two wheels.
