The color is called Fog - it’s actually a really, really light gray. Black centers were a good call on this because it’ll stain if they’re not careful.

I wouldn’t mind a well done Vanishing Point remake with a Hellcat or Demon.

But it has to be done right, not like that Viggo Mortensen one from the 90s

How would you fix a split seam? like 2-4 inches where circled.

There needs to be more white/light interiors. I’d never personally have one because I’d just screw it up, but they look amazing.

I’m a sucker for white seats/trim in a black interior’d car. My Firebird was like that, which is probably why. I’d hate to have to keep it clean though.

Find someone who can use a sewing machine and knows how to put a French seam into leather.

Get yourself a set of hog-ring pliers and a couple dozen hog rings

Pull the seat, carefully remove the cover, and take it to a local trim shop

Prepare to pay a premium for that - especially if the leather is drying out - because not many people know how to sew a French seam into leather.

Sounds like I might need to do that. SInce the factory ones are discontinued, but would have been $1300....

Any good upholstery shop can fix that for you, or even stitch in a couple of new pieces of leather into the cover. Figure not more than a couple of hundred dollars at the high end, especially if you don’t have to have a concours perfect match on the material.

the issue with these is shrinkage and the leather getting stiff. An auto upholstery shop can handle it if the material is still supple. If you let it go too long it won’t be something that can be repaired as it will continue to shrink and not have enough slack to be put back together. I recommend having the leather treated with some type of rejuvenating or conditioning oil while its apart on the underside as it’s the only way to treat top coated leather and may help some. This is a common problem on these and the G8...especially the rear seats at the top.

Yeah, I know, this is the only window with out tint... hence the failure

The worst thing for the leather in a lot of those cars is UV exposure. It makes a good argument for tinting windows.

it’s a very common issue in these cars...I’ve seen them do it regardless of tint.

Well the tint is saving the rest of my interior compared to my boss who already replaced the rear seat covers a couple years ago and needs to again.

don’t get me wrong, it helps for sure. When replacing I’d go to an upholstery shop and opt for a different material, not the OEM stuff.

Yeah, that’ll suck, but the OEM material is all discontinued anyway now. I usually clean condition the leather regularly, but I haven’t in the last year and I blame myself.
