Needs to start it’s own fire under the hood, first. Come on, Mazda. We’ve waited long enough. Give us something like this with at least as much power as a V6 Crossover. Pretty can only take you so far.

To be a Panamera competitor, it has to have power. I hope it does.

I drive a Mazda 3. The power is more than sufficient to get me into trouble and have fun. With that said, I rented a U-Haul truck the other week. GMC Sierra. Holy crap I miss driving a V8. I only got on it a few times but I definitely missed the power when I got back into my car.

Like everybody has mentioned they need a new high powered motor. Take the new skyactiv tech and build a low displacement TT 6 cylinder and use it for this and the suvs in a lower tune since the i4t Mazda motors seem to be a dud

I expect the production version to look more like this:

I assumed the doors were operated by some kind of sorcery, just like the side mirrors.
"davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com" (davesaddiction)
10/25/2017 at 11:24, STARS: 0
I’d accept a V8 or even, more realistically, a turbo 6.
Styling exercise? Yes. But I can’t call something this beautiful dumb.

Right, remote-operated doors and cameras instead of mirrors are pretty much standard for true concept cars these days.
Just thinking of how to use that and make it less of a design foul in the production version.

Tough one. It’s a pet peeve for me, screams lazy design. A tiny window would have been unique (and impossible).
"davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com" (davesaddiction)
10/25/2017 at 12:26, STARS: 0
I don’t think it’s necessarily lazy design, it’s more engineering limitations. Clearly, those two things go hand-in-hand, and design largely should take these limitations into consideration, but I don’t see that little fudge to be that heinous (in this particular case).
I’m sure you just love the RF’s rear supports. Haha!
"fintail" (fintail)
10/25/2017 at 12:35, STARS: 0
Fake windows, I can’t do it. As you say, design should work within the limitations, not try to fool people.
This one really makes me twitch:

Yeah, bad example... What I was trying to say it that I’m not opposed to things that are created purely for aesthetics with no purpose (which is what art is, pretty much), but I agree with you that product design, purpose must come first.
That said, plenty of car buyers choose style over usability/practicality.
