I want to say that several years ago I randomly watched Smokey & The Bandit 3 on Netflix. Don’t ask me why. There was some chase scene where they end up running through a hotel. There’s an orgy going on at the hotel, and the people in the chase have to dodge random orgy participants. It was basically an excuse to show a bunch of naked women for no particular reason. But the movie’s PG!

1980's PG and 2017's PG are waaaaaaaaaaaay different. I try watching some classics with my kids like Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, etc... shit is waaaaaaaaaaaaay to racy for a PG rating today.

Yeah. Makes me even MORE weary to have two daughters involved in sports. They’re in dance, and all the teachers are female, but still. We’ve gone to competitions where the other girls’ teachers/coaches are male and I just get creepy ass vibes from them.

My daughter is getting serious about swimming, but that just means we are getting more involved. I was her coach for a while, and now I usually volunteer as a timer. Thinking about becoming an official, too. USA swimming events depend on volunteering from parents, and I like that it keeps me close to the action instead of sitting on a bench with my iPhone. One thing that is really important is to act appropriately around the kids so that other parents like you don’t get creepy vibes because of me. Everyone needs to feel safe, or it’s no good.

Well yeah, nowadays PG is basically a kids movie with fart jokes and punching, and anything above that gets a PG-13. I’m surprised Beetlejuice was PG since it came out after the PG-13 rating.
I guess what really throws me is the nudity in some 70s/80s PG movies. Because there’s only very few PG-13 movies that have any kind of nudity in them, usually that’s right to an R. Like the topless drawing scene in Titanic even though it was PG-13 was a big exception from that.
Same thing with violence, you can’t show much if any blood in a PG-13 movie (even though plenty of network TV shows with a TV-14 rating are bloody as all hell).
The ratings have gotten more prudish over time.
