Kinja'd!!!

I assume they have some sort of discount on the rooms right now that is not applied when using the AAA discount, but it’s still amusing when you see this sort of thing.

Quite frequently they have an “internet rate” that is cheaper. Also, “government rates” are great since they are locked to a per diem and frequently you can get a nice hotel at a very good price.

I wouldn’t know about the government rates, but that sounds like a nice perk

Sometimes the lowest rates are pay now with no cancellation available. I think AAA rate is always cancelable.

It’s due to the fact that for a zip code there is a federal reimbursement rate for food, lodging, and the like. Above that, and it’s your own dime. It’s intention is to make sure people don’t stay at five start hotels and expect a government contract to pay it back. I’ve stayed with the gov rate at a pair of Hilton’s and both times ended up with the room directly above the lobby. In two different cities. And the rooms looked EXACTLY the same.

This happens everywhere. SO many websites have a “sign up for our mailing list and get 10% off!”. Then you realize it’s 10% off the full price, not the sale price, and the discount ends up being more expensive.
