After some VERY positive responses from anyone who I asked and thinking about how to make it work logistically, I have decided to go for the Saabaru I posted about the other day. Now my crazy schedule for picking it up involves flying into SFO on Friday around 2pm, the seller is picking me up, test drive in the car (about 45 minutes) back to Fremont, hand over the bank check, head to the DMV for a terribly long line, and then a 5-6 hour drive down to LA. Its official though, funds are approved, flight is moved, and the sale is pending!

I am VERY excited for the new ride in my life. Unfortunately though after the weekend, I am not going to get to drive the car! And even more unfortunately (FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS) I already have a BMW Z4 hard top convertible rented for the weekend from Turo. So the Saabaru wont get driven much until I get there from my cross country drive in the Miata.

So as of Friday I will be the owner of three cars in two different states. And I will have to sell the Neon and drive 3500 miles over 9 days in the Miata. My life is totally OPPO right now! Yeah its not really a Saab but its still kind of obscure since only 235 were built in manual in ‘06. Neat!

Many pictures and stories to follow!!!

Also, this is the first car I have ever financed. Yeah, I could afford it in cash but the seller was totally cool with paying by a bank certified check and I got a REAAAAAALLY good rate for an 11 year old car (3.75% for 12 months) so I will happily make payments and enjoy the car. I also have never owned a car this low of mileage so it will be nice to have a MUCH newer car than I am used to. The car is also getting a PPI done this week just for some peace of mind. I figure I could still back out at this point but I dont think that will be an issue. I figure if anything turns up an issue, I could just argue the price down a little from the agreed upon $8600.

Cant tell you how jealous I am. Its really tough to find a good WRX/saabaru and the clean ones have highly inflated prices. At $8600 If I were still car shopping I would have sprung for it in an instant. Tastefully modded too!

Exactly, I planned on paying cash for a car at NO MORE than like 7-8k. And this would have been in like 2 months from now. But I knew that these were hard to find and it popped up so I just kind of went for it. Yeah I am a little over budget and its gonna be financed but I plan on keeping the car much longer than a year and these arent very likely to depreciate much anyways.

I am very happy that this is just tastefully modified. The exhaust and tune were done by a professional subaru shop and everything about the maintenance is meticulous and detail oriented. So I am confident it will go well. Am I a HUGE fan of the murdered out look? No, but I think it will grow on me. I am just happy the head/tail lights are not also blacked out. And I will end up with different wheels eventually anyways, so thats a nonconcern also.

I am not huge on black wheels on a black car either but these look like they are painted in a nice gloss black which will actually be visible rather than disappearing into the wheel wells like matte black wheels.

Some new wheels (or even just the same wheels returned to silver) and red rally mud flaps and id be good to go. Maybe consider bronze wheels too, they look great on these cars.

YESSSSSS thats exactly what I had in mind. I need to get a winter set of wheels for snow tires anyways. So I could just get the color I want for those. And yeah the option to repaint the stock ones is there, but I will see how I feel about it after a while.

I still dont know if I want to get snow tires but it will certainly make this thing unstoppable and avoid chains while heading up to Mammoth and Tahoe. I mean there is enough space in the car to carry both sets of wheels if the weather warranted for it lol.

Nice buy! That’s a great price IMO, especially for an ‘06 & a California car to boot.. Perfect.

You can just bring those wheels back with you & I’ll take them off your hands ;) Those things are hard to find.

I figured people would want the wheels haha. I am going to use up the tires first and then try to find a lighter set and put some proper summer tires on them. I will already be buying a winter set for snow tires so I will try to get a color that I am happier with.

UHP no seasons are kind of the worst of both worlds so I will make sure to abuse them as quickly as possible lol.

Lmao 3.49% good rates I was thinking of doing a 1.99% finance for a used 08 is350 and then just bought it with a cashier’s check.

Tell me more about financing it, I always figured it was difficult to get a loan for an older car like this.

It was because of the credit union that I went through. USAA (my regular bank) was saying a minimum of 8% for a car of that age. It was easy peasy for the credit union. I must have had decent credit since they had quoted 3.75 to 17 for it. Glad it didnt end up at the higher end!

Yeah I would be emptying my savings and then have no emergency money. This way no money is due until after I move to California and I could easily make the payments if I really needed to use the cash for something else. So I just plan to make the payments from savings and try as hard as I can to replenish the savings faster than its going out.

My savings is 1.1% so Im effectively paying like 2.6% at that point. Which is plenty affordable over 12 or less months!

I suppose, I figured if I needed to later once I get the title I could always go to my credit union if I needed so I guess we had the same idea just in different ways. Nice saabaru

that’s the smart way to go, that is still super cheap money and you keep some financial flexibility - that is one of the best looking Saabarus I’ve seen.

Thanks, I’m super excited yet quite annoyed that I gotta wait a whole week lol. Tomorrow is a PPI at a local subaru shop so that will be the final badge of confidence in that car. I don’t think I would want to back out on anything other than hidden rust, but otherwise I might negotiate the price lower if something like a head gasket was leaking.

Three cars in two states sounds like an opportunity merit badge.
