I got to drive my car to Lake Superior Performance Rally this Saturday. It was a blast even though it’s no longer a National event for Rally American which meant Subaru Rally Team USA wasn’t there. (That’s not true. The reason Subaru wasn’t there is because this is still a Rally America race and Subaru is only running ADA races now.) But this year I brought my 8 year old nephew, last year I attended the even the same day he flew here with his grandma from Texas. So this was my first Rally event as Dad.
Any way the this post is about how I found another Galant VR-4! This is the second one I’ve seen in real life, mine obviously being the first. I had originally parked farther from the spectator area, but I saw this car, so I moved my car to take some pictures of them together.
You can tell by the tailights that this car is a 92. The dash plaque said it’s number 3/1000. It had a bigly intercooler, an external oil cooler, front exis exhaust, and a harness bar with mono 5 pint harness. He also had a custom tube front bumper. I think it looks okay, but I’m not about to copy it. I do need some Rally lights.
I saw some other cool cars like this very wide XJ.
And this pair of Aero unicorns.

Nice! I found another triple yellow FoST a few weeks ago. I was out for a spirited drive down backroads and one came by in the opposite direction. And both of us gave the thumbs up out the window. Probably confused the hell out of traffic though. It’s a pretty distinctive car so seeing it come back at you must be a bit odd.

I was there this weekend too! But to clarify things, it was my understanding that LSPR still is a national event for Rally America, but the Subaru team is not participating in Rally America but rather the newly formed ARA (American Rally Association). Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what I understood.

I also found my car’s local almost twin (no Recaros) on a backroad near my house. It was weird to see in rural SC.

I wanted those flares for my Cherokee back in the day.
And it that really a 9-7x Aero?! Unicorn indeed.
There were only 639 built… 500 2008 models in Carbon Flash Metallic, 118 2009 models in Carbon Flash Metallic, and only 21 2009 models in Diamond Silver Metallic.

You can’t make it out from the photo, but that Saab has a SAABARU badge on the hood.
How do I know? I was at this same spectator point! I was crew for Santiago in his BRZ and this was our only chance to see a few cars between services on Saturday.

It was a pretty good spectator point. I was surprised how many people were there tho. I gues temps in the high 60s help attendants a bit.

I zoomed in on the picture, and that’s a different Saabaru than the one I saw parked.... almost exactly right there. Interesting.

Yeah there was another one parked next to a V70R a few spots down. I meant to get a pic of those as well but I got rushed by my buddy.
