While the 911 Carrera T is no doubt going to steal the headlines over the next few days with its tried and true “remove the radio and charge more” recipe, here is something else I noticed while perusing Porsche’s website.

As we previously learned from Nick Murray, European Delivery is no longer an option. It has been removed from the configurator.

PEC delivery in Atlanta was always available as a zero dollar option.

In addition to Atlanta, Porsche has now added PEC Los Angeles as a new delivery experience location. Both of these fancy delivery options are now at an extra cost, but the kicker is, the price varies by model.

$530 color matched ignition key, anyone? (Which still uses rubber buttons from a Pantech phone.)

This shameless milking of the customer is what drives me away from the brand. Yes, they have good product but also a terrible attitude problem. (Before you accuse me of talking sour grapes....I am a Porsche owner.)

I’m fine with porsche bilking people who actually want a radio delete. Just delete it yourself when you get the car if you care so much about weight reduction that 95% of people aren’t going to notice.

nobody is forcing you to pay 500$ for the color matched key. It’s specifically to take advantage of people with more money than brains. most of their normal options are quite reasonable.

Yea I mentioned the key for effect, it’s probably their dumbest option. That said I pay $400 for an oil change #FWP

The reason a lot of the options like the key are there is that plenty of Porsche buyers still buy their cars from dealer stock. I’d love to see the dealer costs of some of these options - it is probably pretty low compared to the prices in the configurator. In other words - the dealer can offer a bigger discount on a 911 with $20k of options than a base model and still make more money on it. Average buyer gets a cool color matched key to show off to his plebian Acura owning friends and thinks he got a great deal getting $10k off sticker while the dealer still made $3k more on him than a base model buyer.

I hope you need 10 liters of 0w-50 or something equally rediculous

Looks like the PEC cost matches what I would pay without buying a car (and that varies by car used). That does seem like something they could throw in, or at least discount.

Now that is ridiculous. Save your receipts at least so you can get the resale “benefit”

“terrible attitude problem” Because they can, I guess. Doesn’t seem to be hurting sales...

Solution: buy used. =)

No European delivery? That sucks. Damn, I’m going to stop playing the lottery.

Although something tells me it will show up as an expensive option at some point. Or you can likely still request it from the dealer, you just have to pay for him and his wife/GF/SO to fly over first class to help you pick up your car.
