As someone in my mid-20s, it’s too late for me to get in to racing and get anywhere professionally, but it’s still a dream of mine and sure would be fun. Any suggestions for someone on getting started?

It depends entirely on your budget. Even within Formula Ford, there’s a pretty wide range of budgets, from $100k for a very competitive professional effort to ~$10k for a vintage club ford (but they’re still plenty competitive!). The best way to get started is by going to a 2 or 3 day racing school, after which you’ll be eligible for an SCCA license. If you’re on the east coast Bertil Roos or the Lucas Oil Racing School are good options, I’m not sure what’s out west. A 3 day school will be a couple grand.

If that’s too expensive, karting is also an option. I’ve been out of the karting loop for a while but my best advice is to find the closest track to you, send them an email asking for advice and then go visit them for a club race.

Hope that helps! I’m trying to figure out how to structure a video on getting into racing but there’s a LOT to cover.
