Today I got a notice from our company’s office building management. Paraphrased: “The underground garage door malfunctioned and you have 2 hours to remove your car. The entrance will be boarded up for at least 5 days. Please find somewhere else to park.” Not the first time this has happened. Mind you, I pay $275/mo for the privilege of not being able to park my car in it’s designated parking space. You might think “well, it sounds like you’ll get some money back!” - nope. They’ve told everyone to go pound sand.

Holy hell. I’m not sure I’ve paid $275 for parking total in my life. Let alone at work!

Yeah? As I rode my scooter to work today, I passed my street-parked VW. It hasn’t moved in a week or two, because I’ve been scooting everywhere and usually walk to work (unless I’m late), and the neighbors have started placing random stuff on it, like 3 newspapers and a plastic cup.

Not amused.

$275/mo for parking? Gaa!

You’re out $45 plus any parking charges while you pound sand. How solid is your lease?

The wife pays $210.00/ month for parking in Oakland. She had a similar problem, but only for one day. She is fighting the parking lot company now to get refunded for the day she had to pay extra for parking at another lot. She did not get advance warning- pulled up to park at 6am and the door was broken......

People are dicks.

I wish I lived a bit closer to work. I’m in Richmond and work is SF.

Too solid. My lease is with my own company and was drawn up by the best lawyer in the world. The company has a lease with the management.

“Oh. Okay. Well you can get fucked as well because I’ll be pocketing that $275 so long as I can’t park in the freaking garage.”

Charging for parking is one of the purest forms of legal extortion.

I had once surgery at the University of Wisconsin hospital and got on the topic of parking with my pre-op nurse. I had arrived a little late and apologized for my arrival time because of taking forever to find a parking space. (This turned out not to matter, they pad that 2 hour early arrival time out a lot and I had to sit around for an hour between finishing pre-op and going into the OR.)

It’s not like Madison is a particularly densely populated place, it’s just that there’s shit for parking around the UW campus, especially the very busy hospital.

The nurse said hospital employees have to pay something like $1200 a year to park in the lots near the hospital, and supposedly the money goes to the athletic department. You know, because they really need that money on top of the Under Armour sponsorship, ticket and concession sales, and free labor from student athletes.
