...when you put it in soapy water.

Kinja'd!!!

You get these cloudy bubbles like crystal balls with swirling mist. And, when you pop them, wisps of CO2 come out. Here I put a glass funnel over some chips and made a CO2 fountain.

If you use dry ice in a cooler, make sure that there is insulation and a moisture barrier between the dry ice and any cans of cola. If there isn’t a moisture barrier, condensation on the cans may soak through the insulation, freezing into ice, which then freezes the contents of the can, which then explodes in your cooler.

Hypothetically. :D

Don’t add dry ice to milk and attempt to make carbonated milk. It’s disgusting.

How often might that happen, as in what fraction of cans?

Asking for a friend.

Research indicates that 2 out of every 24 cans will rupture, with a third can being swollen (aka “Puffy”) to such an extent that you will fear for your life when you take it out of the cooler. Of the 2 exploding cans, one will explode while you are sleeping in a hotel and the other will explode as you are driving through a major city, causing you to think that someone has fired a gun next to your car.

The same thing can hypothetically happen to water bottles as well, but they tend to get puffy without the violent explosion since they aren’t carbonated.

All completely hypothetical, of course...

Of course. Also, if you put dry ice in a plastic soda bottle with warm water and lob it off the Dental school garage, it will explode like the sound of a howitzer and rattle the dorm windows across the street.

Or so I read on the internet.

Try adding it to a 20 litre (4 gallon) container two-thirds filled with water and then sealing in up in the office carpark in the after hours... windows may have been broken. Laws certainly were...even in the 90s
