It debuted at the Texas State fair last month. Bringing it just that much closer to the QX80. Just $1860 separates a base QX80 and the new Platinum Reserve trim on the 18' Armada.

Kinja'd!!!

It comes with this nice 2 tone leather interior. It also comes pretty much loaded with the main and pretty much only option (outside of a few accessories) being 2nd row captains chairs and a center console. So if anyone has 65 grand burning a hole in their pocket, you can pick up this pricey and thirsty (14/19 city/highway. One worse in each if you add 4WD) suv.

That actually looks like a really nice place to sit for awhile. Also, you can get these 2WD? What the fuck?

Yea it actually looks, you know, quality. But yea you can get 2 and 4WD. theres a $2900 difference ($92,985 for 2wd, $65,885 for 4wd) between them.

“Platinum Reserve” sounds like a grade of wine.

I think they are too similar actually. Like if you parked them next to each other you could see they are the same vehicle. I also think Nissan waited way to long to give us the Patro...er Armada. We’ve had the QX since about 2010 or 11 and we just got this one last year.

I wish the Armada and QX80 got the fancy 4wd gizmos the Patrol gets outside the US. But I suppose the reality is few typical consumers here in the US would use those features.

The y62 is a handsome design generally and the QX kept a lot of it but in an effort for it to fit with the rest of the lineup adopted a fascia that did not and does not work with the rest of the design. Stupid corporate grills, ruining otherwise good design.

Or some Whiskey. It just their attempt to woo over the American full size buyers with trims that sound American and rugged. An answer to Fords King Ranch And Platnium trims and GM’s High Country and Denali. Its why we got Toyota’s 1794 Edition Tundra’s, which havent made their way over to the Sequoia yet.

Yea they wouldnt. Armada’s are family mobiles. Something used to tow the boat during the summer and to run the kids to school during the rest of the year. It would be cool if they did offer it though. A Nismo tuned one or something. Something that would be a competitor for the Sequoia TRD Sport and Expedition FX4.

I think this gen of the Armada is very nice and more quality than the last gen. But from experience ( my girlfriends mom has a QX80) its highly inefficient. Real world mpg actually can be 1-2 mpg worse.

That interior looks pretty damn nice, I’d say. Between the dash trim (wood?) and the two tone leather, I like it.

It does seem like they’re stomping all over the QX’s territory with it, though. I presume that they’ve saved some features for the Infiniti that you can’t get on the Nissan at any price?

Along with the terrible huge fake Autozone vents.

Yea I really like that swoop of wood on the dash. But I believe there are some features you cant get on the Armada. There has to be considering a top trim QX80 is nearly 95 grand. But the new one is coming soon and from what I’ve seen, its going to 1 up this quality wise.

I rented the previous gen for a 3000 mile road trip. These are pretty great family haulers. It’s definitely the kind of vehicle for a couple ofretirees who like to pick up their friends or parents with teenagers.

Thing is the Armada is such a bargain that I would bet a relatively large portion of people would like HBMC and a diff lock. They don’t have to be explorers to appreciate the safety and comfort it provides for family adventures or hunting trips, as an example. I mean it wouldn’t HURT Nissans image to put them in an Armada where the QX...i mean i guess it still wouldn’t hurt but it sure wouldn’t help.

I’d definitely buy a PR Armanda over a QX80 because it’s far less ugly.

While the original Armada was a pickup-based American style large SUV, the current Armada and QX80 are siblings of the Patrol, which outside the US competes directly with the Toyota Land Cruiser.

On the Patrol, there’s an optional 4wd system with tarmac, sand, rock and snow modes, plus an electronic locking rear differential, and hill descent control.

Kinja'd!!!

This upgraded 4wd system isn’t available on the Armada or QX80 in the US. Instead we have this:

Kinja'd!!!

I mean, for most suburbanites looking to haul their family around and have above-average winter capability, this is still fine, but there’s a lot of people who want extra 4wd capability, even if they’re not going to be rock crawling in their $50k+ full size SUV.

When you get this 4wd system you also get the HBMC suspension which diagonally cross-links the front & rear shocks to help reduce body roll in turns, and brake dive. (Toyota has a similar suspension available on the 4Runner called X-REAS.)

Oh and there already is a Patrol Nismo . Among other things it gets an extra 28 hp, and it has the better 4wd system and HBMC.
