I am looking for a daily driver that is lots of fun and would do well for ski trips and other long road trips when I dont want to take my Miata. This one happens to be super clean, 66k miles, located in California (about 5 hours from my new apartment), and listed for $9k. I would hope to get it a little cheaper than that but it seems like a good value for the car.

Only mods seem to be exhaust and a mild tune. I have to find out if it will pass smog testing and if anything else has been done to it. But this really seems like my dream car right now!

I’ve always liked those, because interiors on Subarus have been my biggest gripe about the brand; throw a little Saab at it, and that seems about perfect.

Plus, those are less likely to be driven by Ken Block wannabes than their WRX counterparts.

Yeah and its impossible to find a clean WRX that isnt astronomical in price. This actually seems fairly priced for the same damn car but with a better interior. My only concern are the mods but I think if I talk to the guy I can sort it out. Its not a crazy list of stuff so it should work out.

Its a bit out of my budget but I might be able to make it work if it doesnt sell like immediately. Especially since I could probably take out a loan and pay it off in a month or two anyways.

I looked at the link to the forum, looks like a nice brick driveway where most of the pics were taken, and he says he has all receipts since new, always kept it in a garage... all good signs.

Gotta assume you’re the one who said, “I’m not a bot... PM sent”

Good luck!

edit: sorry, not since new, since 2010. It’s an ‘06 which is the same year WRX wagon my sister had; it was a great car.

Call up your local Subaru dealership and ask if they can source OE parts for that.

Up here in the north the frontside of the rear shock towers get absolutely demolished by moisture where the seat latch plates are attached. Every single GD chassis wagon owner I know has experienced it. And i’ve heard/read on the internet that it happens to southern climate cars too. Worth pulling back the carpet to check. It’s some design flaw with the steel plates that get sandwiched together.

Yes, it’s just a high trim level WRX so everything mechanically can be sourced from Autozone.

Yes. Do it.

Grain of salt will be that parts may be wonky to find and the Saab people may tease you for owning a “Saabaru.” (But most Saab people I’ve met also really like these.)

Is it an Aero?

I was just looking at this yesterday. Looks nice! The 06's are really rare. I haven’t seen too many of either year pop up with that low of mileage, plus being a California car you shouldn’t have to worry about rust. Also, if the timing belt wasn’t one of the belts changed at 60k, I’d have that on the to-do list. The forum folks harp on the 105k miles OR 10 year change interval pretty hard.

Stupid low miles. No (well, fewer) HG issues on turbos. Little expensive, try to negotiate it down. Mechanical parts are the same for like twenty years’ worth of Subaru’s, you’re fine. Doooooo it.

Yes, that looks good to me. Source: My last 2 dailys were an ‘05 black 92x linear (non-turbo) and an 05' Outback XT (turbo). I’ve enjoyed both quite a bit, but having both the impreza chassis and the turbo motor would have been ideal if I could have found an Aero when I was looking!

I really liked the handling of my 92x, sure it understeered if driven softly but it responded well to left foot braking and throttle steering and was a downright beast in the snow. It felt planted at high speeds as well, and I’m sure the Aero is only better.

Things to look for: 66k is pretty low miles, so you shouldn’t really have gasket problems yet but do a good look under the car for seeping fluids where they shouldn’t be, oil in the coolant, weird smelling exhaust etc. If you have a bluetooth OBII reader and can give it a test drive I’d plug it in and make sure it builds and holds boost, etc. I’d also find out how much was done to the exhaust - a catback or a full turboback - and what sort of tune is on it. If it’s as clean as it looks that doesn’t seem bad at all, and the black with tinted back windows is making me miss my Linear. I had white sparco terras on mine because rally though...

Im not going to be out there for like a couple more weeks so I hope it doesn’t sell that quick. And yeah timing belts aren’t that bad to do, I’m assuming these are interference?

Yep. I’ve never done a timing belt on a Subaru before. It doesn’t seem like it would be too terrible, since there should be plenty of room to work. I did spark plugs on mine not too long ago, and I didn’t think they were as huge of a deal as people make them out to be.

Do it, I had one. Plus this is a well cared for unicorn so should hold value. Coincidentally I sold mine via the same site, hung out there a while after ownership as well...he still hasn’t posted feet and meat.

Mine threw a bearing a mile from home the day I purchased. Selling dealer had to pony up for a new short block which I had done at my local Scoob dealer. Mechanical bits are no issue, but you could have some issues finding body panels if needed (bumpers, hood, liftgate and grill/lights are the only ones that differ from Subaru) so maybe price insurance on it before hand. IIRC there was a guy selling one with hail damage on the hood and he couldn’t find a replacement. Only interior difference is the seat covers are specific to Saab, every other interior bit is Subaru.

yes they are interference. You could always escrow the money if he’s willing. This may move quickly as it will have a large audience (Unicorn)

10/20/2017 at 15:45, STARS: 0

the only difference in interiors on these are slightly more sound deadening (not much) and the seat covers. Every other bit is Subaru. They didn’t even bother to put the key in the center console.
