Yes, but in Pittsburgh when I lived there, generally the person going straight was waiting or encouraging the “Pittsburgh left” on green . . . since there are so many places that need left turn lanes but don’t have them, and most drivers have a “pay it forward” mentality about it, having needed the help in the past.
I found that in Pittsburgh it was something of a need or else there was always a long line of traffic stuck behind the one person trying to go left.

In Michigan, it’s unwritten but accepted that 2 cars will turn left on yellow/red after the cars going straight through stop. This prevents an endless line where there is no turn light. Similar to the “Pittsburgh Left” but in reverse. Like anything, it works great until a person who doesn’t know the “rule” comes along and throws a wrench into the whole works.

I thought so too, until I was involved in a collision where my last-second left interfered with someone else’s last-second straight. The cop who arrived at the scene was in no mood to hear about who should have been allowed to go through. He made it very clear that neither of us had the right-of-way.
