What's the best looking modern car, that's not a sports/performance or luxury car

Because “Back in the day” they made regular cars that looked good. But because of blah blah blah crash regulations blah blah blah fuel economy, they all look uninspiring and dull. But which one do you think looks the best?

EDIT - I should really read the WHOLE headline before posting. The E is a luxury car, excluding those, I’d go with the Fusion.

Kinja'd!!!

This is the one that comes to mind for me. Fairly simple, elegant, with RWD proportions, and sleek.

But nothing modern comes close to that ‘60 Impala in your post.

I think the current-gen Ford Fusion is way better-looking than a Taurus replacement has any right to be. And I’m not even talking about the Aston Martin similarities; I’m referring to the application of such sporty styling to a non-performance non-luxury FWD midsize sedan. It looks fantastic, it really does. But those looks should have been reserved for something more special.

my mildly incoherent ramblings:
I have a whole instagram dedicated to the mediocrity of current design
instagram.com/boring.cars

Jaguar has done some nice work in the coupe world, but that doesn’t fit what you’re asking.

I think the Toyota CHR has some unique design features, but that doesn’t make it the best to actually look at. Same with the Juke.

The i3 is not in the forbidden market, but does looking like a pig equate to the best design?

I second the Accord Sport but the Pre-Facelift rather than the Post-Facelift model. Not sure if it was just the timing, but I felt that the pre-facelift Accord Sport of that era was the perfect blend of sporty and kind of boring.

Among midsize sedans, I’d have to go with a tie between the Mazda 6 and Kia Optima. I especially like how Mazda found a way to give it sort pseudo RWD proportions.

The Ford Fusion gets an honorable mention, but I think its sort of a “two face” - looks fantastic from certain angles and under certain lighting conditions, and a bit dumpy at other times. Seems like they didn’t do as good of a job of disguising the high cowl cars have to have now, too much mass above the front wheels without enough hood length to balance it out.

2001 Ford Escape XLT. (Picture unavailable because Kinja hates me whether I’m on a desktop or mobile browser.) The proportions are perfect. There is no line out of place. Painted metal surrounds every daylight opening, i.e. window. There is no wraparound glass, no floating or hidden pillars, no spoiler at the roof’s trailing edge. The taillights are their own shape, with no connection or relation to the rear window. Utilitarian black plastic covers the rocker panels, bumpers, and wheel well openings. The trucklet rides on sensible 16" alloy wheels in a clean, simple five-spoke design.

Haha well I guess you could say that. It also has been on the market for a long time in current form. I think they did a great job considering it is front engined and has to sort of meet safety regulations now. The original mini revival in 2000 was also pretty good but it has gotten increasingly ugly since.
