Kinja'd!!!

The cheapest available BMW i3 listed for sale is around $14k. The cheapest available BMW S1000RR motorcycle listed for sale is around $8k. For $22k + ???, how difficult would it be to remove the electrical components from the car and replace with the bike engine?

It would net a car that is < 2,500 lbs, RWD, with 200 HP, a 13k redline, and 6 speed sequential manual transmission.

Why has nobody tried this yet? What is the hold up from doing so?

What is the hold up from doing so?

Probably the fact that it’s a very new and expensive car. Also working on hybrid electrics can kill you if you do something wrong.

If it were sold with the B38 1.5 Turbo 3 cylinder from the Mini, it’d be perfect.

I’d like to make that happen one day.

I’d consider a cheap i3 though I don’t love them... Being so quirkily (and futuristically too) designed though, I feel like it just makes sense as an EV so I’d say let it live its life as an EV. I don’t think there’s any EVs now where I’d say “I’d like to have a gas version of that car”. (a good number already have gas versions anyway)

Wouldn’t it not have a reverse gear?

I think you are doing this wrong. Buy i3 and a small British car and swap electrics into British car. #quiethoon

working on any car can kill you if you do something wrong. Hybrids just present me and shocking methods to do so.

“Why has nobody tried this yet? What is the hold up from doing so?”

The fact that you’d spend $22k, plus need do an obscene amount of work and fabrication, and I bet easily another $8k in parts to make it happen.

I mean, I like where your head is at, I really do .... but this is next level insane.

Bike trans wouldnt hold up to it.

Its meant for a 600lbs bike and rider. Not 2800lbs of car and person.
