Kinja'd!!!

I’ll ask here and await input while I scour forums. The 6 speed in my Corvette felt totally fine on my morning commute. Not on the return trip. The shift lever doesn’t spring back to the middle in either axis, and it takes way too much muscle to get it into gear, including reverse. This problem came out of nowhere; it didn’t get progressively worse. Clutch feels the same as always. On a possibly related note, my friend (who took the picture above) noticed my reverse lights weren’t working. Thoughts?

How is the “return to center” spring action of the shifter feel? This is how well the shifter springs back to the 3/4 neutral position when released from the 1/2 neutral position or the 5/6 neutral position. The return to center action should be quick and crisp. This return to center action is initiated by the mountain detent of the shift shaft (internal) and the ball detent (roller) and two springs located just forward of the CAGS bung. If the ball detent gets crud in it, the return to center action becomes diminished. This condition is of the easiest to correct. It requires a new Ball Roller($15), 2 Compression Springs($5) and less than 5 minutes to install once access under the vehicle is gained.

While the clutch “feeling” fine would suggest otherwise, have you checked the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder? The reservoir is buried. You have to move the ECM out of the way to get the cap off or add fluid. These cars are fairly notorious for failing clutch master and slave cylinders.

I’m hoping this is it. It doesn’t spring to center at all.

Thanks for the reply. Doesn’t seem to be buried on mine, if this is what you’re referring to. I checked and it is plenty full.
