Wow, that’s a sad and cheap steering wheel

(new Elantra L, the only non-Sport trim with a manual). Why would I want this car, Hyundai?

Wow

All cars should at least have volume and cruise control on the wheel. Last time i looked we are 2017

And if it was on an accent with manual crank windows ok, but this is a fucken elantra. Boo Hyundai!

I’d love to see a cost analysis of manufacturing cars this way. To me, it seems like it would cost them more to go out of their way to remove the buttons and produce the plastic panel rather than having it all the same on the assembly line.

Kind of like when BMW or other car manufacturers purposely remove functions from the built in bluetooth receivers like audio streaming. I’m sure the extra R&D to code out something that comes built in from Broadcom or whatever radio manufacturer they use costs more than leaving it as is.

AND as a bonus, they have the volume on the correct side, which is left. That’s the thing you’re likely to use the very most, and it should be opposite the hand you’re more likely to use for anything but steering (like shifting, if manual).

I’ve currently got a rental Fusion with the volume on the right. My Fiesta has it on the left... come on, Ford - at least get it standard across your model line!

I expect the cost to them is less than the price they charge extra for the models that have that, if they all had a certain function some would say why pay $$$ more when this cheaper model does it as well

Seriously! Of the three BMWs I’ve had though, (01, 03, 07) all of the volume controls were on the left, but in a different layout. I still have to think about it for a second.

Hyundai is literally the only manufacturer that makes new cars without cruise control! Even the friggin Nissan versa and Chevy spark pieces of crap base models come with cruise control. Hyundai Accent rentals are really great cars honestly except for the lack of cruise! The damn car actually pulls still at 80mph unlike the others and it has a real transmission that doesnt belong in a lawnmower. Maybe some people dont care about cruise but its the number one most important feature to me for any highway drive over an hour. I even use the hell out of it in my Miata.

And yet the 2 buttons they leave on the wheel are not on the wheel on any of the other trims.

6/7 cars ive owned have been older than 2002 and have had cruise. I honestly didn’t know a manufacturer was bold enough to offer a newish car without it. I use it CONSTANTLY.

just rented an Auris Hybrid CVT wagon (drove through the Pyrenees)- epic drive, shitty car.

regardless the NAV button is really annoying because it tells you it’s not installed in this car.. yet the car tells you what speed limit is on the road. so clearly it has the hardware. that would annoy me if I owned it.

Yeah, I thought I just couldnt find the button. That Hyundai hid it someplace. But no this 2014 Hyundai Accent had no cruise control since it was an option! If this was 1999? Yeah sure thats perfectly acceptable. My ‘98 Neon doesnt have cruise but its a fucking Neon from the 90s!

Often times people think im weird for using cruise control and having a manual transmission but honestly I think its perfect. It just means that the car cant shift gears on its own accord, ruining the whole fuel economy thing for cruise control. The damn Fiesta I rented would drop 2 gears every time I got near a hill and fucking pegged the tach just to make up 2mph.

I would rather have roll down windows and no radio than have to do without cruise control.

I know the struggle. Cruise control in my 3rd gen 4runner had to downshift at the slightest hint of a hill and with such sloppy suspension and such a slow 4spd auto the whole car lurched and my Borla exhaust made very unflattering noises as it droned its way up the mild incline.

Now that I have the TL the cruise control is very smart and will at least TRY to stay in gear and increase throttle, and will SMOOTHLY downshift if needed.

That being said I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains so in a lot of other parts of the country even the old neon could probably hold cruise speed without crazy downshifts.

I can be on the highway for five miles and I’ll pop it on cruise control every time (with the exception of stupid traffic which is quite rare in short trips).

Arguably excessive - compared to virtually everybody - but then again, I was driving home at 11pm on a quiet highway at 65 cruise control and passed this stupid ass BMW X5 TWICE without touching the gas or brake. Wtf right?!

I think about how self driving cars will make the roads so much better... Then I remember that most assh*les can’t be bothered to use frickin cruise control on open highway which is literally the first level of autonomous cars (or we can say “level 0" if it’s basic cruise control with no other features). So even if a car can drive itself on the highway 100%, will people still think that they are better than a machine??

I thought low spec manuals were a good thing here. If I remember right only base accents in 13 on had no cruise and only fleet spec elantras had no cruise. All retail model elantras had it when I was selling. Also all 13 or better Elantras in retail trim had alloys standard vs Versa/Sentra/Altima/Fit/Civic/Accord/Corolla/Camry/Fords thru Fusion/Chevy thru Malibu base models. Hyundai fleet/rental models only had steelies/plastic hubcaps like the retail of others. Personally I use cruise so infrequently, would never miss it

This happens to me all the time on cruise control. I will just be cruising along at about 78 and just fly past some people to then a few minutes later have them come crawling past me and then rinse and repeat. This especially happens at night since I guess people are tired or just stop paying any attention. But I hate turning off the cruise control. I will tailgate the hell out of people and pass on the right just so I dont have to turn it off. I also use it though for incredibly short distances. I just hate holding my foot in the same place. Even with operating a clutch, my right leg is always more tired after a drive where I cant use cruise control much due to traffic.

I hear ya on all accounts.

I do love driving (my car is a six speed) but put me on the highway and you might as well put me in a bed to sleep. I don’t fall asleep, but I get bored and that’s about as exciting as highway driving gets for me (once you get past the on-ramp at least). The thing is that in order for highway driving to start edging on interesting, you need to be going 90+ and that’s just reckless in traffic and without, you’ll stick out like a sore thumb - I’m pretty conservative but I don’t think that’s overly risk-averse thinking. So that said, why should I drive 75, 80 on a highway when it’s just a) not at all interesting, b) going to get me worse fuel economy c) be unnecessarily loud and droning and d) force me to work around traffic that going anywhere between 70 and 85?

Cruise control @ 65 (65 speed limit), stay in the right lane, and I hardly have to adjust my cruise control dial, let alone use my brakes or shift lanes. Obviously you just need to be aware of on-ramps, but for the most part, people try to get up to speed quickly and it’s easy to avoid, even if you have to move over a lane for like 5 seconds to give them room.

I find it most interesting that even going like 65, you will always find people going slower. And it is a bit more relaxing overall. When I picked up the Neon I have, it was too sketchy to drive above 70 so it was just a different pace entirely. While my Miata is a tin can, it will still happily chug along at 80+ and not feel dangerous. I couldn’t imagine cruising all the time in something with power, I’d be speeding wayyyyyyy too often!
