Seems like the framer goofed and each subsequent trade just ran with it. And the concrete guy was probably told to pour that patio and stairs EXACTLY like that to compensate for it. Notice the seams in the slab on the patio... they straddle the door.

I think the problem with the front door is that a double door was specified but the kit only had a single door supplied. So the builder went with that...
Regardless, nothing is aesthetically appealing about that ticky tacky extrusion.
