There’s some variety in there, not all E-types and Astons.

Had a prof in college that forbid us to render interiors with houseplants. He said it was just trashy, distracting, and pulled from the designed space. The focus should be on the building and space, not the tchotchkies  placed in front of it. Definitely took points off for it.

The car is the outdoor houseplant.

Yeah, a design needs to be able to stand on its own.

However, in the case of Garage House, Carpenter’s Workshop, Pagoda House, Graz Showroom, Water Factory & Underground Garage, it’s appropriate to picture the cars, because the spaces were designed for (or even around) them.

Slightly unrelated, but my biggest pet peeve in architecture school is when people put the wrong cars in their renderings. Citroen hatchbacks and Euro-market Audis seem to be the worst offenders...

I agree to a certain extent, but at the same time it depends on who the house is for. If the client is a classic car collector then it makes sense to include cars as they’re a part of the reality of how the building will be used. If you’re building a house for a botanist, house plants aren’t a sin.

I never put cars in my renderings, but I did draw my car and put it in a section drawing of a parking garage.

This would probably be the only exception, if the client was a plant or car enthusiast.

But a residence for a plant enthusiast sounds like a killer design challenge.

You can’t plant flowers if you haven’t botany.

One of my studio profs in school was an old school hippie that loved sustainability. He showed us a bunch of integrated greenhouse spaces in houses. Neat stuff, but so 70’s it physically hurt.

Kinja'd!!!

Agreed. This house in my neighborhood is well-accentuated by the pair of Jags in the driveway (has different ones now).

Such mid-century modernism. Not sure the Jags are helping tbh.

I’m not big on photo-realistic renderings, but I do sneak some cool cars in every once in a while. One of my projects last year was in LA, so I put an AE86 and a few other JDM cars into one of the drawings

I also snuck a bosozoku Nissan Leopard into the photos-

I always find it interesting to see what they chose to pair with cars, (more so in advertising than regular photos) and how the design of the car pairs with the architecture.

e type - sure, both simple smooth designes

delorean - i guess so, the hard line designs work well together

500, kinda wierd, looks like a car in a hospital

isetta, eh, i dont think they are helpin each other

Vantage - hella sexy all around

Tesla, cool concept and i guess it being electic helps, but designwise, i dont see a connection

280sl - should be a TRV. It would contrast the cold design

Porsche - should be a G-wagon. obviously you would park a tank at a bunker

Mustang, they go great together. Its like a modern (relatively) horse in a modern barn

Astin Healey - you would expect maybe a Rolls or Bentley

Sorry if I misunderstood, but the one behind looks quite a lot like the late-90s Lincoln Continental.

It is in that photo. But today, there’s some sort of new-ish sedan and an 80s/90s coupe (I don’t know Jags).
