Let’s play a little game, I think this will be fun. Let’s say you were lucky, and you could choose any two cars you want. Except there’s a twist.

The rules:

You can pick two vehicles. These are the ONLY two vehicles you can own for the next five years. Vehicle one can be anything, at any price point. Vehicle two has a cap of $15,000. This makes things very interesting, as these are the only two vehicles you’ll be able to drive for five years. I’ll start.

My choices

Vehicle #1

This is my unlimited budget vehicle. I only have one child and I’m unmarried, so practicality isn’t such a murder for me. With that being said, I’m picking the best of all worlds, and choosing the facelifted Ferrari FF. V12 power, back seat and hatch back space, all wheel drive, and in my personal opinion...Glorious looks. Can’t go wrong with an FF, and yes I would definitely drive it through an Ohio winter. Zero fucks given.

Vehicle #2

Not easy to find at $15,000 but they’re out there. I’m choosing an 03/04 Evolution 8 SSL. Four doors, five speed manual transmission, all wheel drive and 4G63 reliability. Parts are dirt cheap and I’m extremely familiar with how to work on these. When the Ferrari is inevitably broken, my Evo will carry me through any weather and get mid 20s in the MPG range.

So, what would you choose, and why?

Choose wisely folks!

Whatever that Cadillac is that’s on the same platform as the Camaro (I think.) and I’ll keep my Integra for the 2nd car. (<$2k according to KBB.)

Vehicle 1: NSX Type R. Extremely rare, extremely valuable, extremely reliable, and at the end of the 5 years I’ll be able to absolutely make a profit on it if I sell it. The R came out in 1992, so a few are importable now. I’m unmarried and childless, so no practicality issues for me.

Vehicle 2: TSX wagon. These are just starting to fall into the $15,000 range, and having a TSX sedan now I know how they drive. The wagon would be more practical for me to put bikes in, doggos, etc. I’d just have to track down a wrecked manual sedan and do a 6-speed swap.

Oooooh snap! Excellent choice on both vehicles, especially the NSX. I like it

I see what you did there. Both very reliable and the singer will probably appreciate in value. Well done

For vehicle #1: A diesel Ram 3500 crew cab short bed with all the bells and whistles and with the AEV prospecter package added on. This would cover all towing, off-roading, and camping needs.

For vehicle #2: An 04-06 Pontiac GTO with the V8 and a manual of course. These can be found for under $15k all day. This would be the daily and twisties vehicle

Chevy ss and what whatever 15k gets you in Unimog.

My real life plan is that whenever I “make it” I’ll get a nicer DD and turn the Integra into a mild AutoX/Weekend only car.

The Singer will always be my first choice when there are no limits, and I like the ranger enough to DD it.

My unlimited vehicle would be something that I could have fun in on a daily basis, but not be too tedious at the same time. I’m thinking the new Accord sport would fit the bill well.

The $15k cap would be a used Tacoma.

Thanks. The NSX-R, based on the few I’ve seen (all 1995’s), currently trades around $150,000. An importable one would probably be closer to $200,000, and I could probably sell it for whatever I wanted at the end of 5 years.

Vehicle 1: maybe a 300SL (coupe or roadster) or a 280SE 3.5 cabrio. Sunny day weekend cars.

Vehicle 2: W210 E55 AMG or a 124 cabrio - nice examples of both can still be found for 15K, and both have proven to be solid.

1.) E63 wagon for responsible & classy silliness.

2.) Scion FR-S (not 86!) for general tomfoolery

15k in Unimog gets you a running engine and a whole lot of rust.

So the cheap one is sorted:

Hi, is the unimog still available? Hey, listen, I know this sounds silly, but I got a budget cap of 15 grand even. No, I can’t go any higher. It’s for a random post on an internet forum, it’s all I can do.

Vehicle 2 is easy: a used Honda Accord. It will be dependable, with reasonable handling, and you can drive it when Car 1 is in the shop.

Vehicle 1 is a tougher choice. I would say the Porsche Panamera 4S wagon, loaded with everything. It is big enough for 4 people, looks like a supermodel, and probably much less trouble than any other super-lux car.

My unlimited car would be a Cosworth Escort modified to modernize it and boost the power.

As for my $15000 car I’m going with a 2013 Outback. They fall squarely into that price bracket and it is as practical as I need and would protect my current dog, my girlfriend and any children that may come along in the relatively near future.

Yes. Because I’m a practical person who knows I have to drive this vehicle every day for the next five years. And I want to get in and go without any issues. Hell, the Accord is living a little. I don’t need a vehicle bigger than a Fit.

This is like if someone asked you to pick one cuisine to eat every day for dinner for five years, money no object, and you answered, like, boiled chicken breast and plain white rice, on the grounds that your body requires calories and chicken and rice reliably provides them. “But boiled chicken breast IS living a little—I don’t really need a protein richer than tofu.”

It’s not wrong , I just think it’s nuts given the prompt.

I’d go either e63s wagon or a bentayga for the first slot. 2nd slot would go to probably what I have now, an NC Miata with some leftover cash for a turbo/mods.
