I hate tire shopping. And making it worse, it appears the snows I liked so much the last time are no longer available in 235/75R16.

Now I have two options:

- Pick a tire that IS still available (so far only able to find two).

- Get rims as well and step up a size.

- Run the tires I currently have (Hankook Dynapro AT-M) in the winter. Wear them out. Jump up a rim size after that.

The first option makes the most immediate financial sense. However, my guess is that eventually I’ll have to move up anyway... 16" truck tires are a bit of a dinosaur nearing extinction. So, this might be a good time to snag rims as well so I don’t have to commit to 16" again when I need new summers. Alternately I could just not buy winters this year, my current tires do have the mountain/snowflake marking (good enough for insurance purposes), and I doubt they’d be much worse than the mostly-bald Blizzaks I ran last year. On the other hand, this morning they chirped at the drop of a hat... despite the rating, they’re obviously already getting hard at 6C.

Meh.

Insight welcome, otherwise this is just blowing off steam. FWIW one of the available options is the Hankook i-Pike, I know nothing about them.

WHY CAN’T I JUST HAVE THE TIRE I WANT

Look at Toyo Observe GSi5's. I got a set last year, & they are great. Not Blizzak good, but still good.

I’ll see if I can find them in my size. Thanks.

According to Bridgestone’s website they still make the Blizzak DM V1 in your size.

https://www.bridgestonetire.com/tire/blizzak-dm-v1/p235-75r16

Tire Rack only list the General Altimax Arctics in your size. They aren’t quite as good as the Blizzaks but are a popular budget option.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?zip-code=&width=235/&ratio=75&diameter=16&rearWidth=255/&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17&performance=W

Based on how wide your wheels are you can look at going to a slightly narrower or wider tread pattern with a corresponding change in sidewall height and see what options pop up.

Blizzak DM-V2 is still available in 245/70-16 and that size is pretty close. A few other choices in that size as well.

Sure enough. Looks like I didn’t look hard enough... it’s farther down the list than I expected. But I couldn’t find them elsewhere either, so I wonder if they were just discontinued or not... I’m going to poke around a little more for those now. They were great.

The GAA’s shown on Tirerack were limited stock. I can’t select more than 2 tires.

Thanks!

If that ends up with the same OD I’m willing to check that out.

Thanks!

Being a Canadian, where do you buy your tires? Online or a store?

I’ve used 1010 tires online, they’re pretty good. I wish we had tirerack up here.

First snows I got from the dealer I bought the truck from, current summers I got at a store... I’m considering online or driving to the US for these.

Tirerack will ship to Canada... sadly they don’t seem to be any use to me this time.

Yeah, drive to the US is usually what I do for all my parts. I’m only about a 20 minute drive (if that) from the border on nice country roads.

I’m either 1.5 or 3 hours from the border, but I do have relatives to visit.

235/75-R16 looks like an odd size,

Costco has both DM-v2 and X-ice2 in 245/70-R16..

I’m all for ‘wear out the ones I have, then get new rims and tires’. And while you are at it, upgrade the rims on your summer tires, and use the OEM wheels for your winter tires!

16" truck tires should be around for a long time. Are you looking at D or E load ratings? Or just anything in 16"...

If you are driving to Boston anytime soon, tirerack will dropship to my house and I’ll install them for you!

You’re right. It was a pain in the ass to find the tires I’m running now.

I may have to call in a favor from someone with a Costco membership...

LT tires in 16". That’s pretty much it.

Even base truck rims now iirc are 17" and my tires are kind of narrow on top of that
