Not sure if this is a sign of impending doom, or just normal large-company stuff. Perhaps the fired employees made it through a 3-strikes program or other “performance improvement” program? They have regular reviews, and if they don’t hit certain metrics, they get a verbal warning the first time, written warning the second, and fired the third.

I wonder if they’re going to use my ex-boss’ strategy of paring down operations until all the critical parts are designed, tested, and put into production by two guys fresh out of college with like zero experience.

If that were true, there would be a regular shedding of jobs every quarter, half or year, depending on how frequently they review. But i can’t see a news item showing this has been happening at regular intervals.
